Corncobs: I have downloaded the iTunes sync program, but haven't installed it yet. Maybe this weekend. I don't think it's going to help with the iPod connecting/disconnecting then indexing when it re-connects. Since the dealer checked the USB ports and says they're fine and I had this problem with a brand new original Apple cable, I can only assume it's the Sync system. As far as this being the wrong thread, I dunno, it IS IRRITATING! ?

No Applink and low trunk lid, other than that, can't really think of anything else. My main beef with the defrosters in winter was resolved with the latest updates, now I set it to auto and keep warm without the AC blasting cold air up the window.

I guess too new to have many yet but... Windows phone and microsoft sync should work better together, i mean at least be able to do text and voice not just voice. Come on they are both made by the same company i would expect they would have extra features promoting windows phone being that its also MS....

I suspect that would generate a strong negative reaction for a couple of reasons. One being that Windows phone has only about 2.7 % market share at the end of 2014 and that is down from 2013. Second, Microsoft does not have a very good reputation when it comes to Ford Sync and more closely linking Sync to a Microsoft phone would generate even more animosity. Only my opinion and I could be wrong.

I suppose, but i still think its bs that i don't get at least the same functionality as Android and IOS users... I can see not having extra features but not even the same ones come on...

 

I wouldn't be caught dead with an iphone and WP is much smoother and faster than android (which gets slow and buggy 8-10months into ownership)

Do you have MFT or just plain Sync? Just curious because my F150 has just plain old Sync, not MFT and it tells me that my Galaxy S4 is not compatible with the SMS function, but it works fine in my Fusion with MFT. Go figure. With MFT it WILL read an incoming text message to you if you select "listen", but you can only answer with one of about 10 pre-designed one to three word text messages and selecting the one you want is more trouble than it's worth IMO. If it's that important I will just call the texter hands-free. It's not like you can dictate a text to reply to the message. Just my 2¢.

Hmm the iphone has speech to text for texting, you would think you could use it. The iphone has a bug with the USB that they have yet to fix. Sometimes it loses communication with the MFT, and has to be disconnected and reconnected to start working again, but only with Pandora. It used to work flawlessly until the prior release upgrade. 8.0 worked fine, 8.1 broke it and none of the latest updates helped. Funny thing is, it always quits midway through a commercial, never a song.

Okay, first I will state up front I am an older guy and did not cut my teeth on smart phones and texting. But, in my defense, we have an iPhone and a basic phone and I am competent with both. We have also paired the iPhone with Sync and we are also competent with that.

 

Now, having said that, wouldn’t it be easier to just call her back and talk to her on the phone instead of dictating a text to Siri, listening for the playback to verify Siri got it correct, and then sending the text? Sheesh, this seems like technology for technology sake when there is a simpler and more personal solution. Call me confused.

I suppose there's a way to do this with Android as well. Just not as simple as with Siri. I have a feeling though, that you're just bypassing MFT and sending the text DIRECTLY from the phone. You can tell by seeing the text "conversation" on the phone screen. If it goes through MFT, it has a signature on the msg that reads "Sent From MyFord" or something like that. I've seen it. I looked at the text app on my Samsung phone, but don't see a microphone icon anywhere on it, so I don't know if you can talk to the text app to send a message. Maybe someone who's a little more phone familiar knows how to do this with Android phones? Mine is a Galaxy S4.

LOL, Texasota! I'm with you! That's what I said I do up there in post #31. Just soooooo much easier to just call, have the conversation, get all your questions answered and done! But I suppose, there might always be someone who you just really don't want to talk to at the moment because you know they're going to talk your ear off while you're trying to drive. So, there MIGHT be a case for dictating a text! :)

I have MFT (got to have all the shineys!) i tried once but it said device not supported I think (I'll check on way home today). So now whenever i get a text i get like a incoming call icon (no ringer just like you were on a call) for like 10-20 secs that then says call ended. Which interrupts whatever music i may be listening too, so if your not going to read the text then don't screw with my audio.

I was surprised at the way dirt collected on the trunk area of the car, the vacuum effect of the styling traps it there. Now, however, I have a lot less dirt buildup on the trunk. The crazy secret was when I put Splash Guards behind all 4 wheels the trunk stays much, much cleaner. Go figure.

What splash guards did you use? I don't want mine to look too 1980s! haha

At your Ford dealer they retail for $49.99 for each pair. They aren't that hard to put on, but it's so much easier if you remove the rear wheels to install them in the rear. The rear ones are screwed on using existing holes with longer screws that come with them and a little clip that clips it to the wheel well liner. The front ones can be installed without removing the wheels by turning extreme left then right. They are secured by reusing some of those little plastic button-head fasteners that hold the wheel well liner in place and a clip like the rear. Careful not to break them when removing them. They are 2-piece fasteners. What looks like 1 button-head is actually 2. Pry up on the outer head with a sharp knife or very thin screwdriver. If you are prying on the right thing, the head will slide out of the fastener. You will see a rectangular shaft extending down from the center of the button. That is what spreads the "wings" in the lower part of the fastener to keep it in place.Now you can remove the faster itself using a forked type pry bar or the claw on a carpenter's hammer. You should be a handy person and have a 7mm socket/ratchet and 7mm wrench. The socket/ratchet for the rear and the wrench for the front and rear lower bolt. You'll need that for front and back. I installed mine myself. It took about an hour including removing/reinstalling the rear wheels. Your dealer will probably charge an hour labor to install them.Good luck and have fun!

From a Ford Dealer on Ebay, they are OEM Ford parts and were $80 (?), made in Germany - they are high quality.

You can get them cheaper from Ebay Chinese suppliers, I like mine just fine.

Since I've added them they've taken a few hits from road debris and a varmint or two with no damage.

 

I got all mine on without removing an 18" wheel/tire. Beware, you can easily ruin the attachment screws if you aren't careful.

The good news is: those weird Ford push/screws can be found at Lowe's in the nuts and bolts section>specialty screws>automotive for a lot cheaper than a Ford Dealer.

My list of nits to pick (against dozens of more important standout features - looks, mileage, value, fun to drive, fun forum, etc.)

 

1) Uneven trunk due to battery (I especially noticed this when transporting a 25" pizza)

2) Sensitive dash buttons make it easy to accidentally press them - ex. inadvertently activating seat warmer while adjusting volume.

3) Inability to adjust MyView with all the fuel information I want - if the 2014 models were updated to also include the Fuel info in the right dash screen then this issue is solved.

4) At times ICE at low speeds sounds less than spectacular

 

Ford definitely has a winner with the Fusion Hybrid and I'd like to see them keep pushing the technology envelope - such as able to configure Internet access through smartphone, allow set up of common online music apps, and allow voice activation commands to work within those apps.

That's an interesting problem to solve :)

This is exactly what we've done to transport large pizzas that we don't want to set on the leather & that don't fit in the lowest part of the trunk. ?

It's been a great car so far with much better mileage than the EPA estimates. One thing I also could have added to my wishlist was an affordable home link solution for those without Titanium trim or moon roof option in SE. For $200 I added an after market auto-dimming mirror that included home link.

Maybe a bit clumsy, but you could cut a piece of quarter inch plywood to fit the shape of the lower part of the trunk and fashion some support legs so that its height matches up with the battery shelf. This would give you a flat surface for the entire trunk area and although it would be shallow it would work for your oversized pizzas (or similar cargo). The current fiberboard floor insert might be a good start for a pattern.

Where did you get that mirror and did you install it yourself or have it installed? Did the $200 include installation if you didn't do it yourself? Thanks! I had the Universal Garage Door Opener/Moonroof in my 2012 (gas) Fusion SEL and I kinda miss it.
