storksb Report post Posted October 2, 2014 Anyone else getting the new pop up / slide up ads in the lower right hand corner of the screen on this site? Looks to have been recently added. So annoying as it always seems to be in the way of my mouse. I know the site needs to cover its operating costs but isn't there already enough ads on here? hermans Report post Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) In the ad box you have the option to opt out of the ads. I also use Adblock Plus. I don't get any popup ads. storksb Report post Posted October 2, 2014 I typically don't mind the ads at the top and side of a web page and never really had a need for a pop up blocker, as I know sites have to at least cover their operating costs, but when the ads pop up like these are doing and affecting the usability of the site it is very frustrating.Just to highlight the usability issue the pop up is currently covering the "Post" button. I don't see adsense listed.I think you misunderstand.It is caused at the forum end, NOT an addon at your end.You can fix the problem with an browser addon though. I have tolerated the ads for many years until another site I frequent got carried away in similar fashion.Now AdBlocker Plus solves the problem quite nicely; I didn't even realize that there WAS a problem here. And just a side note:The forum itself has NO control over what the "pass through" ads contain.They could contain nasty stuff that attacks your computer.I don't like the way it operates and feel much better since I blocked the stuff. As far as I am concerned the ads in the lower right corner crossed the line. I had no problem with the ad bar at the top of the page because it didn't get in my way. I hate it that Adblock has become a necessity but irresponsible ad cramming by many sites has made it necessary. Why would you need a different browser just for this site ?I think there is a version of Adblock for every major browser and it works seamlessly with all of the sites I visit......both in IE and Chrome. You cannot run ie or chrome on either. The Adblock for for iPad and iPhone is a separate browser. And just as a reference, I have your posts blocked so I do not see them because of our previous interaction. I mistakenly click on the view a block post link.
