Torque Log Analyzer

Torque Log Analyzer is a Google Spreadsheet add-on that process Torque logs and reports a summary of your trip.
The report highlights driving behaviors that are bad for your mileage, so you can improve your driving style.
Torque Log Analyzer was written specifically for Toyota HSD hybrid cars, but now supports Ford hybrid cars also.

As I've just added support for Ford hybrid, I'm looking for testers.

The apps is free and just a for-fun project for me.

Excel is not a free software, and OpenOffice just don't have a well documented scripting API, so I opted for Google Docs, that is cross-platform and cloud-based

As for your concern about sharing GPS data with google, GPS data can be excluded from the logs, but if you're using an Android phone to gather Torque data, you're already sold your soul to big G.

Anyway, full source of Torque Log Analyzer is available and I will support anyone willing to port it to Libre/OpenOffice and Excel as a last resort.

So because I use the torque app I just had to give this a go. (Made some 10minutemail google account to do it)

Must say it is very nice, lots of useful info. Great job! Love the Analysis. Gonna add and log some of the PIDs that seem to be missing according to the Logs so I can get more info .

Small things I noticed: I get the following error a lot:

ERROR: Trip Distance\(km\) PID missing, could't add column EV Distance

(Besides the spelling error: could't)

I am logging trip distance but mine is in Miles. Is there going to be support for Miles, MPGs and the rest of the US units?

(Speed data is labeled as Km/h below, but I'm pretty sure it's actually MPH in my logs)

I would love to be able to see some of my MPG Data and EV distance info.

Going to Add most of the Missing PIDs the Log tab shows as missing and report back.

 

Here is a sample of the Analysis Summary this outputs (Besides all the nice charts) for anyone interested in trying this:

OK, So I went ahead and added some of the Missing PIDs and I got much better results.

And I'm really loving what this has to offer.
The Log I analyzed yesterday was just an old one I had on my PC that I was playing around in Excel with.

I get lots of errors with some torque logs and others seem to work fine.

There does appear to be a bunch of required PIDs that I don't get any data for like:
Accel Pedal Pos #1
Actual Engine Torque (I do get data for torque though)

I don't have PIDs for the following which show as missing in the Torque Log File Analyzer log:
ERROR: Batt Pack Current Val PID missing
ERROR: Regen Cooperation PID missing
ERROR: Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor PID missing
ERROR: Regen Cooperation PID missing
ERROR: HV System Indicator PID missing

I believe some of these are Toyota specific even though I specified Ford hybrid so this could be a bug.

I do probably need to add all the PIDs linked here in your blog:

I do have a 1st Gen Lincoln Hybrid so that could be why some of the PIDs are Missing or contain no data. I'm not sure if the Ford Stuff on your Log analyzer was optimized for the 2013+ Ford Hybrids though.

Here is another example of the Summary Analysis generated.
Things are still in Metric units but it's easy enough to convert to US units.
But it's so much easier to do if you export to Excel or Open Document format first.
I have to say google spreadsheets is the slowest, clunkiest spreadsheet software I have ever worked with.
I am amazed that anyone actually uses it for anything. I understand it is all web based but there are much better offerings out there than googles...you get what you pay for here...and with anything google...You're the Product, not the Customer.

actually labels are hard-coded in SI base units, but the raw numbers are picked up from the torque logs

so if you're logging in miles, you'll get miles in charts and analysis

I'll work on that on later releases if I'll get enough requests

just ignore the messages, I'm going to fix them in the next release

OK, so I think we can find the Ford Equivalents to most of those Toyota PIDs and also the one I still get no Data for: Actual Engine Torque

 

I guess what I need to know is what kind of data those PIDs give you so I can find the Ford Equivalents here.

Can you give an explanation of the Data they provide.

As for Actual Engine Torque

I am able to get some torque data from other PIDs. What is the difference between the regular Torque PID and the Actual Engine Torque PID?

 

Update: So after looking at the FAQ on your blog I see there are items listed on "What to Log" that I was missing.

I have added them and will take a trip to see how this affects the data.

Let me know how it works after reading the FAQ

 

After updating what I'm logging, now I'm only missing the Following (which are all Toyota PIDs right?):

ERROR: Brake PID missing

ERROR: Regen Cooperation PID missing

ERROR: Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor PID missing

ERROR: Regen Cooperation PID missing

ERROR: HV System Indicator PID missing

 

And I'm now getting battery Info as shown in my Updated Analysis shown in the post above

 

Seems like there may be equivalents to the the Brake PID and HV System Indicator.

Any Ideas on the Actual Engine Torque PID and Just Torque PID?

The PIDs reported as missing are Toyota specific, related to braking and the hybrid system.

I've found no equivalents for Ford.

The actual engine torque should be a native torque app pid.

Yes, I have it set to log, But I do not get any data for it. So it appears my car doesn't support it. I have just Regular Torque (ft/lb) also set to log and I do get data for it.

Is there any difference between the two?

So besides having to make some unit conversions everything seems to be working great now.

I don't know about difference between the two.

Actually "actual engine torque" is used to detect when the petrol engine is beeing passively spinned by the electric engine. On Toyota hybrids, this is a condition that happen while running in EV at over 70km/h.

Maybe it doesn't even apply on fords, maybe with some logs we can test it out.

Regarding the braking PIDs, what we have on Toyota is a PID that monitor the pressure of the braking system (under a given level, there is no braking applied) and a PID that tells if there's some regen energy collected from the brakes.

Careful braking activate only the second PID, while the first triggers only under 12km/h or on fast brakings.

  • New Ford PIDs: previous ones were slightly wrong, download the new ones from the download section. (thanks to larryh and HighwayJerk)
  • Altitude statistics: start, end, min, max, delta.
  • Options are saved and restored when the sidebar is displayed.
