His modification of the rear bumper looks identical to what comes factory on the Milan bumper.

There are a ton of cars that have that type of treatment. It does look better than the stock monotone on the Fusion. That was the point of his post. Your implication was "so what, my car already has that." I think that treatment looks better on his Fusion than it does on the Milan.

I think his car is altogether pulling toward looking very much like an early 2000s Nissan Maxima. It's his car. I can appreciate some of the things... not everything... but not nothing either.

 

My overall feeling on this latest particular add-on is indeed, "my car already has that" because, hey... my car already has that. It's something I've seen before, because it's on every Milan on the road. I guess it's just one of the many elements that make a Mercury a Mercury.

 

A lot of manufacturer's use that faux rear wind diffuser appearance on their sedans. Nothing wrong with it. But maybe it's become as cliche as the faux front skid plates you see on every small SUV (the indentions in the lower bumper valance).

I don't know where the impression that anyone here is "in a huff" on the subject came from. Seems like people on this forum get so cult-like sometimes that any opinion outside of the majority is treated as heresy... gimme a break. There's no correlation between a factory installed analog clock on the dash that apes a luxury brand vehicle and a guy getting out in the driveway to paint part of his bumper black.

 

I bought the Milan over the Fusion because I think the Fusion is just plain ugly. I like the Milan facias much better (particularly the LED taillights) and also appreciated the Premier trim packaging Mercury offers.

 

It's hard to find a car this loaded without having to also pony-up for the larger V6 engine or other "comfort" packages that boost the total price over $20,000. I paid $19,000 and am happy as a lark about my car. It needs nothing else.

It's a public forum, we all have opinions. This thread I believe has been the first correspondence between you and I but just from my review of some of your other postings I can say that a high percentage are derogatory and negative in nature which may contribute to your cult-like forum perception. The only time I see any resemblance of a contributory post of yours is when you need a question answered on a given subject. Forums or 'real-life' there is some give and not all-take.

 

Thanks for posting the Nissan vehicle, upon further review it looked as though the center caps were chrome oriented and not gray so I decided to make my wheels more like the Nissan and changed out the Ford gray centers for some Ford chrome centers...and yes I did this in my driveway too.

 

 

I enjoy working on my own vehicles as no one else will take the time and patience that I will since it is my vehicle. Most service centers have a "get 'em in-get 'em out"

attitude which is an attitude that I don't want to spend $70.00 an hour to finance.

The biggest fault of a forum typically lies in the person reading it. The reader infers attitude. The reader assigns tone. Feelings of being slighted are built up in the reader's head... and the reader's sensitivity level is perked by a unqualified level of defensiveness the 1985 Chicago Bears can't match.

 

I've been helpful when I can help. And I've been blatantly honest with opinions and observations of forum topics. I've said it before, and if people of adult age can't yet handle it, seek help: If you start a topic on an open forum, you have accepted license to receive both praise and criticism for the subject of your thread.

Your basing these conclusions off a handful of posts that for one reason or another got a lot of attention. One such thread was an inquiry into where to buy lowering springs for a brand new Lincoln MKZ. I posted that lowering cars is "gay" and had hell to pay for it. Well, guess what? Lowering cars is still gay--in my eyes. It's a waste of money that worsens the ride quality, introduces the opportunity for underbody damage from road debris, and can cause abnormal wear of tires. It's a stupid thing to do to a car of this nature.

 

Another thread I caught flak for was when some 17 year-old with a brand new Fusion asked what grade of fuel to use in his car (WTF) and I told him, in not so many words, to try being proactive and exhibiting some interest in the operation of the ~$19,000 investment his parents just made. There are so many avenues for obtaining this simplest of information, but what is his first inclination? Join a car forum. Recently, a similar thread appeared inquiring as to if there's a break-in period for their new Fusion. I seriously wonder how these kinds of people ever figured out where the key goes to start the vehicle.

 

In this very topic, I note that the modification being discussed is exactly like what is on the rear bumper of all Milans. The topic immediately degrades to the point where it's like having a t-bone hanging from your neck in a lion cage.

 

This isn't the "rah-rah" channel where every single post should be expected to be "great job!" "love it!" "gold star!" "big hug!"... it's a forum. Ideas and thoughts are shared and reacted to. It's time to get some thicker skin, folks, cause life is full of critics and opposing viewpoints. I really feel for those who haven't realized this yet.

 

And congratulations, everyone, for completely derailing this thread. The mod--for what it is--looks like it was executed well, but it's not something that will likely show residuals for the time, materials, and planning involved. It's modest enough that most people probably won't even take notice.

Saying something is gay is not stating an opinion it is derogatory by it's very nature. You know this as well as anyone else on this forum. The reason you use that term is to ridicule as it is not descriptive in any other way.

 

Also, having adverse opinions is great, but stating them in a way that infers the other individual(s) is an idiot is entirely inappropriate under any circumstance. Nobody is asking you to say you love everything. We are just requesting that you learn a little tact in your responses. So, even though it IS a FREE country, you should try to be a little more accommodating of others as well.

 

Finally, a enthusiast site for a vehicle is there for ALL types of enthusiast. I really haven't seen you post anything enthusiastic but hey, maybe I missed that thread. You are not any better than the "young kids" you speak of and they are not asking you to do ANYTHING to your car. So let's try to be a little more mature and not try to make them look like idiots. The truth is that will only make you look like one.

 

And to the OP, I still say your mod turned out WELL and looks OUTSTANDING. Which really is the point of being an enthusiast for most of us.

I tell people to RTFM all the time as that is one of my pet peeves. But I don't ridicule them or call them names. If you don't like something just ignore it. I think 20" wheels and larger are incredibly stupid but when somebody makes a post about them I just ignore it. Stop the namecalling and making fun of anything that you didn't do yourself.

I was neither seeking praise nor criticism. I do my mods to my vehicles for the way I want them to look. If others like it, that is great, and if not, well I am open-minded enough to accept that too. I posted this so that others can get ideas. We all come here with a different set of skills and knowledge and the point of the forum is to exchange, share, and help those that are interested regardless of their level of skill or knowledge. We can agree to disagree and move on. Here is a brief list of vehicles I have owned (some I can't even remember) and some I still own..so I do have a little experience with cars, engines, mods and yes showing certain vehicles. If I was interested in showing a vehicle I surely wouldn't have picked a Fusion, Milan, or Zephyr. Below is an example that some people have indeed liked certain mods to certain vehicles. I have no 'trailer-queens' as my current Fusion was purchased in Jan. 07 and already has racked up 12,000 miles.
