KAFusion Report post Posted July 21, 2014 I'm looking to purchase a trunk bike rack for my '14 Fusion and was wondering if anyone has an recommendations for which one I should get that would work well with this car. Also for people that do use them have they had any issues with paint scrapes/chips using this type of rack? Thanks!
jeffo65 Report post Posted July 21, 2014 I went with a hitch rack. Easy on, easy off. We installed the hitch ourselves. I could not get my Saris Trunk rack to fit the trunk of the FFH. With the extra wide trunk lip at the bottom, I could not get a solid hold for the straps. I don't believe the trunk lid is sufficiently rigid enough to hold a bike rack plus the bikes. On past cars, we have used SARIS Bones racks and they still leave small scratches. I have put pads/towels under the rack pads, but they still have left marks. Sorry I could not answer you better. I went with a tray rack, the Kuat Sherpa. Nice and easy and very solid. Plus it only weighs 29 pounds. That makes it easy for my wife to put it on or take off if necessary. http://kuatracks.com/en/products/hitch/sherpa/
Charrua Report post Posted October 13, 2014 I went with one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004E3RE5I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I just made a 400 mile trip and it worked great. There are 2 slotted holes in the trunk lid that I used for the lower strap clips. I'm not sure if that's what they're for or not but there was no sign of damage or denting anywhere. A disadvantage of a trunk mounted bike rack is that the bikes are held higher than with a hitch mounted rack and therefore probably affects the car aerodynamics more. I took about a 10 MPG hit.
