2013 options?

Recently bought a CPO 2013 SE Hybrid that was signed off as having the navigation system passed.

 

Now after the sale, and my seeing no naviation functions, other than the "Where am I" which displays longitude and latitude, the dealer is claiming the car never had navigation..

 

 

How can the car display that location info if it doesnt have GPS (navigation) installed?

 

 

What would YOU do?

 

 

 

I fear I may have to file a lawsuit in order to get this remedied., an dI would really prefer that not be required......

All Ford Fusions have a GPS receiver, whether or not they have navigation. The Sync system uses it to provide the turn by turn directions that it downloads from the Sync computer using your bluetooth capable smartphone.

But I do beleive that since the dealership signed off "Navigation - Passed" I still have a case for making them install it...

 

 

I'm just all about making a car salesman be on the receiving end sometime... :)

 

 

 

Really do like the car regardless. Traded in a Cadillac STS V8, and am thrilled to be rid of that gas hog..

What does "Navigation - Passed" really mean?

 

Does it mean that Navigation is installed?

 

Does it mean the the dealer checked to see if the car has/not has Navigation? After they checked, it was marked as Passed as you we checked?

 

If you car has SYNC it has Navigation capabilities.

When you look at the rather lenghty CPO check list, there are all sorts of items that are checked off as to being operation and certified to be in proper working order.

 

 

The items are either checked as "Passed, Repaired, Replaced, or N/A". On those items the vehicle isn't equipped with, they are checked off as N/A.

 

In light of this being a Ford "Certified Pre-Owned" car, and having Navigation item checked off as passed, would convey the idea that the car was not only equipped with navigation, but that it had been checked and passed....

It will be on the left side under "Optional Equipment" and will be listed as "Navigation System".

You tested the navigation system when you took the car for a test drive, right?

If it's not on the window sticker, it's not on the car, or it won't be operational on the car.

 

If the top right corner of the display says "Information" instead of "Navigation" the car doesn't have the option. I have heard that it cannot or will not be added.

I think the only way you have a case is if the dealer advertised the vehicle as having navigation. A check list stating the "navigation passed" is something you probably received after taking ownership of the car. That is not misrepresentation of the product. That is a mistake or difference of interpretation by the make ready / service department.

tbh, you aren't missing out since you already got MFT without nav. MFT is cool as a system, but the navigation system part has screwed up massively twice in the last 2 weeks, and just isn't quite as reliable as other car systems or even a Garmin/smartphone. I like managing my music through MFT, and I like the rearview camera, but I'm seriously going to just mount a Garmin for navigation purposes if my next trip to the dealer can't make the navigation at least as reliable as the ancient one in the 2008 Fusion I traded in. At least when I do that, my passenger can play with the radio without disturbing my navigation map. And I get lane guidance in the city, not just for highway exits.

In a sense all Sync equipped cars have Navigation. The difference is whether it has the maps loaded or have to have them downloaded. For those without the on screen navigation, they download the directions, and guide you based on GPS, same as the built in OnScreen type, only different is you don't get the turns displayed, only announced. So they could have tested Turn by Turn and claimed it as Navigation Passed. If Navigation is installed, it would show no card installed instead if it was missing.

This is similar to how the last gen Chevy Malibu claimed to have a "navigation system" - it was really using onstar to get voice directions and nothing more. In the same way, OP's car technically has a "navigation system", just not a "traditional" one.
