SSM, Another Battery Saver Special Service Message

Recommended Posts

Jun 27 2014 5098 -2013 Fusion/MKZ - Battery Saver Mode Or System Off To Save Battery Message - Load Shed Strategy Diagnosis And Repair

Some Fusion/MKZs may exhibit various symptoms of the vehicle going into Battery Saver Mode. It's normal for the vehicle to enter into Battery Saver Mode if an overcharge or low state-of-charge is detected, or if the ignition is left on over 45 minutes. Don't reset the Battery Monitor unless the battery is new. First, determine why it entered Battery Saver Mode by performing the Inspection and Verification checks in WSM section 414-00, and proceed to the newly added pinpoint test for Battery Saver in the Symptom Chart if needed. If the vehicle was built on or before 3/6/2013, reprogram the BCM to the latest calibration using IDS release 90.02 or higher. The software update will delay entry into Battery Saver Mode from 50% battery state-of-charge to 30%. Use causal part 10C679 for reflash only if no system issue is found.

Oops. Don't think I would like that at all.

They change an early warning of impending battery failure, which is unquestionably useful, over to one that is telling that you are already screwed because it is just a hair away from being completely unusable ?????

That sounds like a "fix" created by a marketing major.........or maybe an Engineer that was trained by GM.

If I ever start getting these messages I plan to replace the car battery entirely with some lithium sulphur-phosphate batteries and super capacitors ;) I’m kidding.. but only partially. Can you let the car know what the capacity of the battery is through some setting? Or does it just watch for voltage lag?
