gf2020 Report post Posted June 23, 2014 Closed the deal on a 2014 Fusion SE Hybrid today. I live north of Boston but purchased from a dealer in southern New Hampshire. A very easy deal to negotiate. MSRP was $31,845, I paid $27,075 and they gave me a very fair value on a low mileage 2009 Volkswagen Jetta SE wagon that I traded in. I've never owned a white car before but I know I am tired of dark colors. My Jetta was black and I have a 2010 Tundra that is black and a 2012 Highlander that is dark gray. The windows will be tinted to the Massachusetts legal limit later this week.

gf2020 Report post Posted June 28, 2014 Darn... 5 days, 475 miles on the clock and already a visible deep scratch. Noticed it on the driver's side rear fender this afternoon. I was kind of hoping scratches wouldn't be that visible on the white but there appears to be a gray primer underneath that shows through. No idea what happened although my wife did take the car to the mall yesterday. Nothing ever good happens at the mall!
Darkside Report post Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) Welcome - I too am new to this and can't even get a vehicle report because I only have 164 miles on. You need to hit 200 before you can run the report. Edited June 28, 2014 by Darkside

The lack of plates screams new car and some deranged fools take great delight in marring a new car and raining on a new owners parade.Sorry!

I used to live in Cali and I fully remember how brand new cars can be driven off the lot without plates. Always wondered why... in Canada that's not the case. You can still drive a car off the lot here on the same day you purchase, but only if plates can be acquired on that day (usually not a problem if you're trading an old car). If you're selective about your plate then you need to wait a couple days. In other words, up north you can't easily tell which cars are brand new. In MN the dealer will put a temporary yellow sheet of paper in the back window. Plates usually take about 3-4 weeks to arrive. The yellow sheet of paper is technically only valid for 14 days, but the state often takes way longer than that to get the plates out to the dealer who then has to turn around and mail them to the customer. gf2020 Report post Posted June 29, 2014 I think this was probably from a shopping cart. The car has plates on it, when you trade in a car here in MA you just transfer the plates from the old car to the new car. I'm going to ask a buddy of mine who works for an auto body shop if he thinks it can just be buffed out. It's on the plastic part of the fender though so I'm not so sure. The yellow sheet of paper is technically only valid for 14 days, but the state often takes way longer than that to get the plates out to the dealer who then has to turn around and mail them to the customer. System's a little different here. Auto insurance offices all carry a few boxes of plates and most dealerships are not far from such offices - in fact a large "auto mall" usually has an office in the middle. So you can buy the car, walk to the office (or the dealer staff can drive you), register it and get your plates (if you're ok with the limited selection), and then drive off. If you don't like the selection of immediately available plates, then you have to wait before you can take your car but I haven't heard of it taking longer than a week. Joe Sofia Sr. Report post Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) A little off topic but I will share it anyway if but to highlight the differences between states: In California, you drive off the dealer's lot with a temporary registration that is affixed in the front windshield. This serves as the "plate" until the actual plates arrive in the mail 3 - 4 weeks after purchase/registration. I took delivery of a new car, had the temp registration affixed and drove off. The next week I took the car on a road trip to the neighboring state of Arizona to attend my nephew's wedding in a small town called Florence AZ.As luck would have it, I drove by two local cops at a junction on my way to the wedding only to be stopped for not having any plates. When I explained to him it was a new car and my registration was in the window, the officer proceeded to give me "what was required" in Arizona was some temp plate to be displayed in the rear Of course he asked for my other credentials such as DL and Proof of Insurance. When he determined I wasn't a bad guy (mind you I was in a tux) and that my credentials were in order, he let me off with a warning that the AZ HP could still stop me and offered me directions to the wedding venue. Funny thing was....the local oakel didn't even notice that I handed him an expired Drivers License lol!!I actually had the newly issued license on hand but seeing as I had just received it in the mail on the day of my road trip, I hadn't swapped the expired one out of my wallet yet and just threw the envelope containing the reissued one in my luggage! So much for being thorough! lol Edited June 30, 2014 by Joe Sofia Sr. 2 GrySql and hybridbear reacted to this
hermans Report post Posted June 30, 2014 In PA they supply a plate at the dealer along with the temp registration the dealer puts in the rear window. You then get the sticker to put on your rear plate. Saves alot of running around.
acdii Report post Posted July 3, 2014 My dealer actually has plates, not many dealers are registered to issue plates, but mine is, so when you buy a new car, you drive off with new plates if you dont have any to transfer.
