murphy Report post Posted June 22, 2014 I previously posted this in the Energi forum but it probably applies to the Hybrid also. I was ready to activate a stored route this morning. I had backed out of the garage and was stopped waiting for the garage door to close. I pushed the Voice command button and there was no response. I pushed it a few more times but nothing happened. Thinking it might be blocked by reverse I shifted to Drive but there was still no response. The rear view camera was still on because I have it set to stay on for a short time after shifting to Drive. Not until I was moving forward and the camera turned off was I able to get a response from the Voice button.
hermans Report post Posted June 22, 2014 The system is designed to act that way. As long as the rear camera is on you can't speak or input commands. Notice your radio also will not work?
corncobs Report post Posted June 22, 2014 Music from my SD card still plays when backing into my driveway. However the sound level is turned down when reverse sensors pick something up.
hybridbear Report post Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) I believe what Hermans meant is that you cannot turn the radio on with the button while the camera is on.This feature is the main reason why I do not have my camera set to stay on after I shift out of reverse. SteveB_TX Report post Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) Yep, normal operation. I have my camera set to turn off immediately on the Z. I have yet to figure why SOMEONE wants the thing to stay on in the FFH. :) Edited June 22, 2014 by SteveB_TX

hybridbear Report post Posted June 22, 2014 What I meant is if you have the radio on and put the car in reverse the radio is muted until you put it in gear and the map disappears.Does this happen on both your FFH & MKZh? I'm 99.99% sure that this doesn't happen in our FFH or in my parents' C-Max Energi although I will have to test & confirm today. I always turn off the radio before shutting off the car and don't usually turn it on when getting in again until after I've driven a few blocks. But I feel like when I'm driving and back up to park I've never heard the radio go to mute during that time. I wonder if there is a configurable setting somewhere for that. All have/had the backup camera and the radio sound turns off when put into reverse and the camera is working. I would check your car more closely. SteveB_TX Report post Posted June 22, 2014 I just tested the MKZh and the FFH. Neither radio mutes in reverse. The volume goes waaaay down when the proximity beeps sound, but the volume is never muted. 4 jeff_h, corncobs, hybridbear and 1 other reacted to this

The volume does not change unless the front or rear proximity sensors start beeping. And even then it doesn't mute, it just lowers the volume. Perhaps this is a customizable setting. 1 corncobs reacted to this
gkinla Report post Posted June 23, 2014 Yep, normal operation. I have my camera set to turn off immediately on the Z. I have yet to figure why SOMEONE wants the thing to stay on in the FFH. :) I like having the backup camera on after backing into a parking space. With part of the camera view looking straight down I can see the back parking space marking when pulling forward. This way I'm sure the cars rear bumper is not in the red, waiting for a parking weenie to come by and add to their daily quota. 1 acdii reacted to this

My MKZh has the sensors and the radio again mutes under the same operation as my FFH.

2014FordFusionSE Report post Posted June 23, 2014 I don't think my Fusion's radio mutes either. I'll pay more attention next time but it would be an annoyance that I would notice right away.No sensors on my car.It definitely cancels everything else that you were trying to do. I have yet to figure why SOMEONE wants the thing to stay on in the FFH. :)I like to see where I have been. Would be nice if it was on all the time, then you can see who it was you ran over. Actually I have it so I can pull forward with it still on when backing into my car port so I can line up with the wheel stop at a certain point so my doors all clear. 90% of the time I back in the sun glares off the screen so I can't see the wheel stop. 1 gkinla reacted to this
gkinla Report post Posted June 23, 2014 So...your car radios don't mute when you go into reverse? You do have strange cars. ;)My FFH doesn't mute either. When the radio is on, the volume just lowers so you can hear the beeps. Sometimes when I'm backing up and the warnings are not needed, or just want to keep the radio on full volume, I just hit the LH down arrow and then the LH OK button. This mutes the backup beeps. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

dijital Report post Posted June 25, 2014 I also noticed that if you start the Nav calculating a route, then shift into reverse, route calculation is cancelled. It's like the backup camera cancels EVERYTHING in MFT. 1 hybridbear reacted to this
ceilidhdog Report post Posted June 25, 2014 My radio doesn't mute either. I turn the car on in the garage, turn the radio on, put the car in reverse, and watch the backup camera and listen to the radio while I'm backing out of the garage.
acdii Report post Posted June 25, 2014 I do believe there is a setting to mute while in reverse, though I personally haven't looked. It might be related to MyKey as an option, even if MyKey isnt used.
