Steel Ramps, need longer ramps to change oil?

First off does anyone with a 2014 FFH change their own oil? If so how do you get under the car?

 

I have steel ramps they look like the bumper will come off if I drive up them.

 

I had scraped and scratched the bumper on my '99 Chrysler Sebring Convertible every time using them and this FFH sits way lower than my convertible does.

 

Any suggestions or does anyone make ramps with longer rise to keep from ruining the bumper?

I had to get a set of low profile ramps from Pep Boys.

I use a set of rhino ramps and place a 2x12 in front of them for a little extra starting height on the ramps so I don't rub the plastic air deflectors.

Rather than buying, if you have some basic hand tools, just make a custom set of ramps from 2x12's, similar to these.

 

 

 

 

 

Cut them to the appropriate length for your car and bolt them together. I wouldn't trust or go under a car any other way, or use any other material.

I have a set thats 30 years old. Works on dump trucks and Fusions.

I don't have 2 man and a small boy to carry something as heavy as them around. My rhino ramp are polymer and hold the front end of my f150 with no issues.

It doesn't take "2 man and and small boy". 1 person can easily carry both of these.

 

But, if you trust your hollow ramps, I'm sure your fine...

They have an internal support structure. I hope you can trust your ramps don't have internal rot, termite damage or cracks. :) .

I fully trust my ramps, they are solid after 30+ years.

I built some just like that about 20 years ago from scrap lumber. They work great and cost me nothing. Nice picture.

Borrowed the low profile ramps from my friend who has a Mustang. The low profile ramps work good until getting off them. Then we have scraping of the air dam's that are out in front of the front wheels. Does not seem to be any damage just scraping when driving off them.

 

OBTW, Changing oil on this car is a PITA having a dozen T30's to remove to get the underside panel off. I really don't know why it also takes such a small oil filter. My motor cycle filter is about the same size as this little thing. I've always liked to up size the oil filter to maximize the filter element surface area. The car was at 6794 miles and had 30% oil life left on the dash. When it was out in the sun it did not look bad still having a golden hue to it. No awfully weird stuff in the bottom of the pan either. All topped off with AMSOIL Signature Extended Full Synthetic 5W-20. Took plenty of pictures on the top side. I could barley fit under the car, not taken any their.

Hence the reason I let them do it. Also did you know the filter for a Camry Hybrid is the exact same filter on my John Deere X500 2 cylinder air cooled 24 HP engine?

I made some like that too, used them for leveling my RV's and changing oil, solid as a rock.
