Progressive Snapshot not available with Fusion Hybrid?

Recommended Posts

I've enrolled all my vehicles in to the Progressive Snapshot programs and have saved on average ~10% on my car insurance. When I added my new Fusion Hybrid to my policy I noticed I cannot enroll it in the Snapshot Program. I called progressive and they said the car is not compatible? The snapshot device plugs into the data port (I think OBD-II port) on the cars and from what I can tell, the fusion hybrid also has one?

Any ideas why the car may not be compatible?

We did a test of this program in our car. We don't have Progressive but I wanted to see how their rates would compare if we used the Snapshot program. In signing up for the trial I had to say that our car was a 2013 Fusion to get it to work instead of a Fusion Hybrid. It is compatible. They have the information wrong on their site. Since even with the maximum Snapshot discount their rates are still very high for us I never bothered to contact them to tell them that it does actually work in the FFH.

State Farm has a direct link to Ford. You run a Vehicle Health Report several weeks before your renewal is due and they get your odometer reading from Ford. The renewal discount is based on how many (few) miles that you drive.

Just moving to the Houston area where no one has insurance with a big V8 truck at the time, the Snapshot device saved me soooooooooo much vs every other company. Using that discount I was able to negotiate a lower rate with other companies. Then I "downgraded" (yeah right) to the Inline 4 Hybrid and the insurance savings now pay the car note.

I just used the snapshot device as a bargaining tool and when it came time for the discounts to kick in the Progressive rep said I had the best driving record/habits they had ever seen.

Insurance used to be $200 a month, now closer to $75. Plus in a couple of months I will reach that arbitrary age of 25 when I suddenly become a better driver and my rates go down for some apparent reason.

What does Snapshot report?

What does Snapshot report?

It records how many miles you drive and at what time of day. It also records how hard you brake. These factors are then used to predict your likelihood of having an accident. If you brake gently and don't drive during rush hour then you'll qualify for the maximum discount. You are allowed a certain number of hard stops per (day/week/some set time period) without falling out of the highest discount bracket. You can view your history online to see how you rank as far as qualifying for the discounts.
