md13ffhguy Report post Posted August 22, 2014 I've had a spectacular MPG week, so I thought I'd update this thread and document it here. Not quite sure what to attribute it to - perhaps the perfect storm of ideal conditions? I posted some numbers for Monday and Tuesday in another thread, but to recap (these are all round trips back and forth from home to work - based on the Trip Summaries): Monday: 63.0 mile round trip - 67.7 out, 49.5 back, for a 57.2 MPG day.Tuesday: Same 63.0 mile RT - 65.9 out, 54.6 back, for a 59.7 MPG day.and then,Wednesday: 65.2 mile RT - 67.6 out, 48.1 back, for a 55.9 MPG day. Thursday coming soon - with picture proof. ;) . 3 jeff_h, GrySql and hybridbear reacted to this

md13ffhguy Report post Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) Incredible MPG! What kinds of speeds did you drive? Looks like lots of stopping with all those regen miles.Probably 15-20% at 40-45 MPH, a very short distance at 65 MPH (less than 10 miles), with the remainder at 55 MPH. md13ffhguy Report post Posted September 23, 2014 Took a trip in a different direction than usual for me this weekend, heading out to western MD, from the central part of the state. About a 230 mile round trip and my first time across the "mountains" in this car. (Don't laugh, you guys out west!) Saw the HVB hit 100% quite a few times, from uphill and downhill charging. Anyhow, MPGs were 53.0 out and 52.4 back. Kind of surprised me, because I thought driving from a lower elevation to higher would skew things the other way. I was also a little disappointed that it put a dent in the 55+ tank I'd been working on! Fortunately, I got it back up to 54.5 with today's work commute! ;) 3 corncobs, hybridbear and GrySql reacted to this

lolder Report post Posted September 24, 2014 What were the starting and ending elevations? Temperature and winds could wipe altitude differences out.
md13ffhguy Report post Posted September 25, 2014 What were the starting and ending elevations? Temperature and winds could wipe altitude differences out.Yep. As it turns out, the difference in elevation was not nearly as great as I had always thought... maybe only 100-120 feet higher at my destination to the west than at home. I'll have to chalk the difference in MPGs up to "other" factors - traffic flow, temperature drop, etc...
lolder Report post Posted September 25, 2014 That's almost insignificant and the hills mostly cancel out. If your 4000 lb. car descends 1000 ft. in an hour, that's 4 million ft -lbs or 2 hp. If you were going 40-50mph which uses about 20 hp on level ground, that would be a 10% change or 4 to 5 mpg.
