Surround sound setting (Sony)

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I've noticed in the past that 'surround' gets switched to 'stereo' due to some events. I wasn't sure what, but I thought that switching devices could cause it. Yesterday I think I found one trigger - muting the stereo using the steering wheel button. Could someone try putting their audio in 'surround' then toggle mute on and off? If I'm right it should come back on in 'stereo' mode. Annoying!

I have noticed that this setting doesn’t stick also. I just tested this. If I hit the mute button it does switch to stereo, but when I press the mute button again it goes back to surround. I tried messing around a bit with other things but now of course, I can’t make it forget the setting. I need to do some further testing with changing sources and stuff, but there is definitely a common pathway through the system that causes it to go back to stereo.

I've also noticed the sound setting change to Stereo after I've set it to Surround. I tried your suggestion today. On the Sound settings screen with Surround already selected:

- I pressed the Mute button, the sound muted and the setting switched to Stereo

- I pressed the Mute button again, the sound un-muted and the setting remained on Stereo.

- I changed the sound setting back to Surround.

- I pressed the Mute button a third time, the sound muted and the setting switched to Stereo.

- I pressed the Mute button a fourth time, the sound un-muted and the setting changed back to Surround.

The setting only got stuck on Stereo on the first mute/unmute cycle. I tested it a few times on my trip to work and every subsequent time it changed back to Surround when unmuting.

I tried again on my trip home and had the same results in that the first mute/unmute cycle stayed on Stereo, and all the following cycles returned to Surround.

Pete
