dmdivris Report post Posted May 9, 2014 Ok so i have the keyless entry with the push button start so essentially no key. My dealer gave my a special key to gain access to the car if the battery was dead. This is unlike any key i have seen before the cut is in the sides of the key. I want to get a duplicate key has anyone had any luck getting a spare key made with this one? will places like home depot be able to make these cuts? i'm thinking i should have one stashed on the vehicle somewhere if needed. maybe wire tie it up underneath somewhere just incase and have a backup at home
Easy Rider Report post Posted May 9, 2014 That's a laser cut key. Some locksmiths can do them but not all. BUT.......isn't there an emergency key INSIDE your remote for situations like that ?? I too got an "extra key" with mine and after a little reading, I think it is a "MY KEY" which can be programmed with some restrictions. My salesman seemed a little foggy about that too. Magnetic key holders usually work good......as does using duct tape to put a key on the back of your license plate. Most dedicated car thieves, however, know about all of those tricks. It will deter only the amateurs. dmdivris Report post Posted May 9, 2014 Holy crap......good call!!! noone told me there was a little key in there. I guessed you open it to change batteries so i gave it a try and presto there is a little key in there! The dealer handed me the (2) main button operated keys and the one spare and said don't loose the regular key you'll be screwed. Thanks for the info i wonder how many people don't know that entry keys are in the remotes
murphy Report post Posted May 9, 2014 The only use I have found for the "regular" key, other than unlocking the driver's door, is to lock the glovebox.
Easy Rider Report post Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Look up the "My Key" section of your manual........some day when you are REALLY bored. It might create more questions than answers though. Edited May 9, 2014 by Easy Rider
acdii Report post Posted May 10, 2014 Hmm I didn't get a 3rd key.
SteveB_TX Report post Posted May 10, 2014 Hmm I didn't get a 3rd key. We got 3 keys with the Lincoln... 2 fobs with the mini keys inside, and one regular key that I use on the glove box, since it is tough getting the key out of the fob! We only got 2 keys/fobs with the Ford.
Kcouture25 Report post Posted May 10, 2014 I got two key fobs, both with the manual keys inside them. The third key I got was the "my key". Genius that I am, I've left it in my center console since picking up the car. I should probably go take that out of there lol.

Genius that I am, I've left it in my center console since picking up the car. I should probably go take that out of there lol. That is not a "My Key". It will lock and unlock the glove box and the driver's door. It can't be used for anything else. It can't be used to operate the car. A "My Key" is an intelligent access key that you program in the car to have restrictions such as limiting maximum speed for use by a teenager. There can only be one "My Key" since the other one has to be a master (admin) key to be able to undo the My Key.
Easy Rider Report post Posted May 10, 2014 OK, well maybe it should be called a "My FOB" instead. :) My salesman told me that I got the 3rd key because the other dealer they got it from had installed an optional Security Alarm feature and we needed THAT key toput in the drivers door to shut off the alarm should it be triggered. I wasn't buying that for a second. I would be amazed if it turned out that he was right. Nobody has been able to come up with any documentation on that extra "alarm" yet so I haven't been able to test it........but having to have a special key in your pocket to disablethe alarm should it be triggered is just too stupid........even for Ford. Maybe it is a Microsoft product !! ;)
Kcouture25 Report post Posted May 13, 2014 Well, the third key I was given was described as the myKey by the dealer.
SteveB_TX Report post Posted May 13, 2014 Well, the third key I was given was described as the myKey by the dealer. If it isn't a fob, it can't be a MyKey.
Kcouture25 Report post Posted May 13, 2014 I will have to ask him about it then, since that is an option I paid for. I only received the two fobs.
murphy Report post Posted May 13, 2014 One of your two fobs can be programmed as a MyKey by you. The procedure is in the Owner's Manual. Or if you need to have two admin (master) fobs then you will need to purchase a third fob and have it added to the car. The car can handle up to four fobs. Waldo Report post Posted May 13, 2014 I will have to ask him about it then, since that is an option I paid for. I only received the two fobs. Then you better get your money back. MyKey is standard on every Fusion.

Waldo Report post Posted May 13, 2014 Thanks for the wisecrack. F me for being brand new to the FFH. My sarcasm is directed at your misinformed salesman. But seriously, it's not an option, if you did really pay extra for it, you got taken.
