Icons Converge: Ford Mustang Celebrates 50 Years at the Empire State Building

We took our Mustang GT 'vert on the 45th Mustang Anniversary with the 2009 Mustangs Across America drive, it was a lot of fun.

As more cars joined in the travel across the USA we had about 10 miles of Mustangs of all types on the highway rolling along through New Mexico and eastward, it was quite a sight.

It became a traffic problem in congested areas and local police helped a bit when we stopped for the organized lunches and dinners.

We had a 7am Driver's Meeting every morning to discuss the coming day.

Putting over 300 Mustangs on the highway on-ramp at one time was tricky, we had a couple of fender benders with lookey-loo's.

Certain Ford Dealerships and Mustang Clubs hosted us, our Bossier City, Lousiana stop was held in the Civic Center Auditorium.

I'm not going next year for the 50th Anniversary MAA event but it ought to be fun.

The 2009 route started at the Shelby Racing & Museum facility in N. Las Vegas:
