loonzilla Report post Posted February 24, 2014 Only on the 2nd tank of gas with my new Ford, but was clipping along (after 180 miles) at around 50-51 for this tank. I was really excited, hoping to get this high of mileage on only the 2nd tank. Then, my wife decides to take the car to get her hair done yesterday on her first big outing in the car. I had to head to work for a quick trip last night and noticed the MPG for this tank now states 44.4. Wow!!! She only put on about 30 miles during the trip, but ruined my goal for this tank. Well, at least her hair looks fabulous now…and she really enjoyed the experience. Will have to wait for the 3rd tank of gas to try for 50... 1 hybridbear reacted to this
hermans Report post Posted February 24, 2014 She needs to have her own FFH. Only way to solve the problem. 1 acdii reacted to this
jeffo65 Report post Posted February 24, 2014 Our FFH is my wife's car and she drives it 80% of the time. The only time I really drive it is on the weekends. And she is pretty good at keeping the mpgs up. We have our own contest when we drive the FFH. Our goal is to have the on board MPG reading to be higher than when we started, when we park the car at the end of the drive. It is fun to see if we can do it. Most times it can be done, even if it is only a 0.2 mpg increase. 1 hybridbear reacted to this
swingdj Report post Posted February 24, 2014 If you had 50 after 180 miles, then she put on 30 miles and dropped it to 44.4, that means she averaged 10.8 mpg. Maybe she kept it running while getting her hair done?!

hermans Report post Posted February 24, 2014 My wife consistently gets better mileage than me around town. I normally do the long haul driving so no comparison there. I think she does really good on the gas mileage considering she was quite the street racer when I met her...way back when. I was a police officer then...that's how I met her. 1 corncobs reacted to this

hermans Report post Posted February 24, 2014 That's a cool story did you stop her more than once? She grew up quite the tomboy. She has two brothers and all three had matching Mustang Fastbacks. Yes, I stopped and ticketed her more than once. When we were dating I had a GTO she would drive and I would frequently receive feedback from area law enforcement. It took her awhile, but she did eventually slow down. 1 corncobs reacted to this
tr7driver Report post Posted February 24, 2014 My wife mostly drives the FFH. Last spring we went on a road trip to South Bend, Indiana, in the 2010 Milan HY and I started giving her pointers while I was driving. Always positive, not picking at her, just demonstrating the quirks of driving a hybrid. When she saw the MPG jump after the trip, it turned into a competition, lol. However, she still likes to set the climate control and leave it. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

Maybe she kept it running while getting her hair done?!I was wrong; she went about 50-60 miles in her "hair bender then have some driving fun" afternoon spree. (I had to double check; 10.8 didn't seem right…still guessing since I'm estimating what I had prior to lead foot driving it). I asked her about this and she said she floored it a bunch to "get the feel" of it. Good god... 2 Ryan Goodlett and corncobs reacted to this
djminfll Report post Posted February 25, 2014 What I find kills the mileage for me is the traffic lights that are timed for you to miss each one. When I drive downtown, the lights all turn red just before I get to them. It doesn't matter how I drive, the lights downtown work against me. Other than that, I can consistently get in the low 50's, but downtown kills me every time!BTW, I've been gone for a little while, but I'm back now! :) 4 hybridbear, GrySql, corncobs and 1 other reacted to this

Every single light turned red, and I am thinking, OK how the hell does he get 50 MPG in this dang town?
