Fusion_Diffusion Report post Posted December 6, 2013 Found a great, light-weight box measuring 35"X18"X6.5" online at 'The container store' and with a 24" flat bungee cord from 'Home Depot', I got all my stuff up above the HVB shelf and out of the way... After being upset for a while for not having a spare tire, I realized that actually, it's better this way. In 40+ years of driving, I can count on two fingers the times I had to change a tire on the side of the road. Usually what happens is a nail that would cause a slow leak, giving me plenty of time and driving distance to take care of it without using the spare. Why lug around a 20-30 Lb. spare for the next 10 years if the odds of needing it are so small.I do carry a jack and a repair kit but hope I never have to use them... 2 hybridbear and corncobs reacted to this

hermans Report post Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) The habit started when I lived in the desert....for 15 years. I don't drink soda and I like the idea of folding down the drivers side back seat and getting one when I want it. I have a case in my wife's car also and it also sits on top of the battery shelf. I like where the stuff in the trunk is already stored from the factory and don't see the need to put it somewhere else. murphy Report post Posted December 8, 2013 A case of water where I live would be a case of ice this time of year. That would probably split the bottles and there would be water everywhere when the car warmed up. ;) 1 dalesky reacted to this

I found a canvas container with rigid sides that slides in that area and stays in place nicely. I carry a spare and jack where the foam insert used to live. That device now lives in some landfill, where it belongs!I got my canvas thingy at Homegoods. It has rope handles so I can grab it and pull it out easily. Great place for reusable bags, a plastic sheet to protect the trunk from wet items, umbrellas, bungees, etc. I didn't need to store much in there. 1 Fusion_Diffusion reacted to this
mrobinso8 Report post Posted December 9, 2013 I also store the tire and jack where the foam insert used to live with the jack on its side beside the tire. The tire is in open side up which gives me room to keep the "device" just in case of a slow leak and I need the pump. Also room in the hole for miscellaneous other small junk. acdii Report post Posted December 16, 2013 I think I posted somewhere the cargo case I found at wlamart. Fits perfect back there and has velco that grips the carpet. Hold s LOT of stuff, and not once did something fall out. I remembered to remove the car cleaning supplies out before they froze too much and split the bottles. Thankfully only the Z6 was back there, that stuff doesn't get hurt when it freezes, but the rest of the Z does.

My dealer told me the FFH doesn't come with a donut spare because it won't fit with the FFH's regen brake calipers. My FFH has the 18" 5-spoke aluminum alloy wheels. I bought a set (4) of these on Craigslist in perfect condition for $250 with lug nuts and center caps. No TPMS, but it's not much for one (like $38). The tire can be had for less than $100 with shipping. So, for about $200 I have a full size spare with OEM wheel. I haven't bought the tire yet, so I don't know if it's going to fit in the spare tire well, but I doubt it. I'll let you know when I know.

My dealer told me they don't even sell a donut spare kit for the FFH cuz it won't fit with the FFH brake system.
GrySql Report post Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) Welcome to the Forum! We have a Wheel and Tire section that might interest you, it has lots of info about this subject. The donut spare that fits the gas 2013-2015 Fusion will fit the 2013-2015 Hybrid. It does not fit the Fusion Energi. Edited December 22, 2014 by GrySql 2 corncobs and jeffo65 reacted to this

billford Report post Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) The tire plug kit is the same as what I carry. In addition to the razor blade and cutters, I would suggest to have a mini hacksaw also. When the excess tire plug needs to be trimmed, it is hard to cut them with a razor blade or cutters. A hacksaw trims them easily. Most of the time, the plug can be installed with the tire still on the car, so have a large blanket and flashlight in case you have to lay on the ground. Also, in case of an accident or to help other people trapped inside cars, I also keep a mini hacksaw to cut seatbelts and a pointed hammer to break windows in the glove box. Hope I never have to used them... Edited December 22, 2014 by billford
