hybridbear Report post Posted January 27, 2014 I just checked my '13 FFH Titanium and it doesn't have it and I think mine is a Job 2. I will stay tuned to this topic to see if those that have "retrofitted" the new style intake find that it will fit and if so, if it reduces noise. If so, it looks like an inexpensive and easy to install upgrade. :)What's your build date? I did some "research" on cars.com and compared 14' vs. 13' and the few that I could find with a picture of the engine all the 14's had the chamber but none of the 13's. Maybe they added the chamber sometime thru the Job 2 but maybe also just starting with 14' MY.What's your build date? Jeffo and our white FFH were built in May 2013 and have the chamber. Jeff_h has it on both of his Energis. Hopefully he'll see this and chime in with their build dates. We should be able to figure out the time when they started this chamber. Also, do the MKZs have the chamber?
corncobs Report post Posted January 27, 2014 03/08/2013 Interesting that they would make such a change half way thru Job2 production on the other hand it's just a piece of plastic. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

GrySql Report post Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) I ordered the 'special' piece of plastic, now I hope Benny at Levittown Ford can get me the newer version with the chamber.Whatever happens it won't get to me until the end of next week at least (UPS Ground from coast to coast).I am on hold. Edit 01/27/14: To make sure that this part is not matched to my VIN, Benny had to add a comment to the part order that says:"DO NOT SPECIFY AGAINST VIN, MODIFICATION PART" This also means that they don't guarantee fitment, I'm buying this at my own risk and no refunds.Hope this works. They must have made the change shortly after my car was built since some cars built in May have the new style intake chamber. I'm looking forward to GrySql's results in trying to retrofit the new style intake. Hopefully, it will fit just fine and reduce the engine noise enough to make it worthwhile. hybridbear Report post Posted January 27, 2014 My Energi was built April 1 and I drove it home on April 15.It has the resonance chamber.Ok thanks! We're getting closer! Murphy's car from 4/1/13 build date has the chamber but corncobs from 3/8/13 does not. Boat Racer doesn't have the chamber and we're just waiting on his build date since it sounds like his was built around the beginning of April as well... GrySql Report post Posted January 28, 2014 Thanks for your typical complete and helpful info bro!All this info is in fits and spurts. This is where I asked about getting the correct part on the Fusion Forum Forum, and what Benny had to do to find the part. This is the actual part number I ordered and our final discussion. Keep your mukluks on, that is way too cold for little ol' me.
gemdc Report post Posted January 28, 2014 My 2014 MKZh has the appendage. Built 07-09-2013. Quieter than my 2013 FFH SE but the ICE could still use more insulation. Has anyone compared the engine sound of the hybrid versus the 2.0 Ecoboost? Seems the hybrid should be as quiet as the turbocharged version but I suspect it is not.
lolder Report post Posted January 28, 2014 The turbocharged ICE should be quieter. The hybrid atkinson cycle ICE noise is from the intake.
acdii Report post Posted January 28, 2014 The EB Fusion will never be as quiet as the hybrid, at least when in EV! :) 3 hybridbear, corncobs and dalesky reacted to this

hermans Report post Posted January 28, 2014 Since you have both, which car has the quieter ICE?The MKZh is by far quieter, but that may be explained by the Lincoln having better insulation.

GrySql Report post Posted January 29, 2014 Just checked Etis. My car's build date is April 13, 2013.So Murphy's was built on April 1, 2014 and has the 'device', then Boat Racer's was built almost 2 weeks later and does NOT have it. (Boat Racer, you have the build date as 2013, I think you mis-typed and meant 2014, in your Sig too) It doesn't look like this can be pinned down to an exact day and date.Reminds me of the leather shifter, if the part wasn't available that day at the factory they just put something else in. 1 hybridbear reacted to this
gemdc Report post Posted January 29, 2014 I can confirm that my 2014 MKZh is a much quieter car overall than was my 2013 FFH SE. Road noise is less. The sound system is much better. Still, you can never get enough quiet. The difference between ICE mode and EV mode is a big incentive to keep the electricity flowing in the forward direction. I think I am going to drag some carpet remnants out of the attic and play with covering some of the intake areas and tubes to see if that drone can be further subdued.
