Chicago to MO (900 miles) round trip

It took my first road trip in my FFHyTi. The ride was smooth on highway as well as city roads.

I did 70/75 mph on highways (80 at times) with some local city driving. The mpg ranged between 35 - 38 on highways & 42-51 in the city. Over all the average came around 38.5 mph as 80 -90% of those 900 miles were highway miles.

 

For my daily commute of 20/30 miles, mpg averages out somewhere around 38-45.

 

Hope this info helps for folks who are new owners & haven't taken road trips on their FFH YET ..:-)

You probably would have done better if you kept your highway speeds lower - for me, I have found that the closer I get to 60-62mph the better my mpg numbers are. Of course, this will take you longer to get where you are going, so you'd have to choose between speed or fuel economy. Driving the 900 miles at a steady 60mph will take you 15 hours; at 65mph it will take you 13.8 hours, at 70mph it will take you 12.9 hours, and at 75mph it will take you 12 hours.

I live in South Florida, and I-95 between Miami and Fort Lauderdale can seem like a racetrack at times. I used to drive 75-80 mph to keep up with traffic, but ever since I got the FFH, I stick to the right lane and stay at about 60 mph. The problem is when people drive like this in the LEFT lane. That will totally cause road rage! I have posted previously that I find it much more relaxing staying in the right lane with ACC set at 60 mph, and just cruising on in to work or play.

I had to drive to Chicago and back. I hate Chicago. I stuck to the left lane for the most part keeping up with the flow yet plenty of slowdown room for the brake score. Still managed to stay above 41. Ugh I hate driving in Chicago.

I don't mind it at all you just have to account for all the crazy nuts out there. Most stupid things people do you anticipate very well if you pay attention in your mirrors. You will notice the dumb once from far behind.

We observed similar data on our road trips.

45 MPG @ 65 MPH

42 MPG @ 70 MPH

37 MPG @ 75 MPH

 

Wind, AC use and temp will also play a role. The numbers above should be fairly accurate for no wind, no AC use and moderate weather (i.e. warm enough for no heat but not hot enough to need AC).
