2012 FFH averaging 36.6????????

Dears,

 

I have a 2012 FFH averaging 36.6 the car has now 1800miles on it...is that normal as it is part of the break in period??I read that in users manual...

 

is there any thing wrong in my car?? my driving??

 

I use premium fuel 98 octane ...

Your car's rated EPA mileage is 41 city and 36 highway. Depending on your commute, you may be right on target.

thank you for your reply...no most of my driving is city 90% of it if not all..

 

as for the ratings I am aware of that its just that from what I have seen on this forum other drivers are averaging 40's and the lucky one's gets 50..i am not sure if they are 2012 or 13's ...

 

if it makes any difference I am using metric units so my reading are AVG 6.3L/100KM= AVG 36.6 MPG

You're most likely running Air Con. a lot and that has a considerable impact on mileage. You're doing quite well I'd say.

To be honest, you are one of the very few on this forum with a 2012 FFH. Almost every post here is directed at the 2013's. As mentioned by terryb, don't you have to use the A/C a lot in Jordan? If so, you won't get the rated MPG's most if any of the time.

The numbers might improve dramatically but do you really want to do that? Park in the shade, drive the first few blocks with all the windows open and then turn on the AC. There's nothing wrong with those mileage numbers and there is no update for your model.

Agree with everything lolder said. In addition to his suggestions, tint your windows and get some in channel vent visors so you can leave your windows cracked while parked.

If this is your first Hybrid, you are doing pretty good. Give it time, follow the driving tips posted elsewhere on this forum, and as the car breaks in the MPG will improve. Combined average is 39 MPG, you are only 2.4 MPG below that, so your doing OK. As mentioned, the AC will suck the MPG down some.

These vent visors allow you to keep the windows down about two inches without the worry of rain leaking into your car while parked. Leaving the windows down a little helps keep your car cooler. You can save money on gasoline by using 93 Octane regular. Our engines run just fine on regular. There is no more energy in a higher octane gas than regular. The higher octane is for cars with high compression engines, or turbo boost engines, high octane prevents knocking.

if I understood you right...mmmm then I think we are on the same page here,,where my engine is still new and I am trying to prevent knocking or the engine to get rough..as lower octane can get you a rough running engine after a while...that's what I know

Today's computer managed engines are designed to self adjust to various grades of octane, by adjusting ignition and cam timing. So in reality, they run just fine on grades down to 85. The only reason I run 89 in mine is because the station I fill, that is their regular, and it is across the street from my dealer, and where it got its first full tank. Of course getting 89 for the price of 87 is also another reason I do it.

 

When I drove my F150 Ecoboost across the US, I started out on 91 and there were a few places along the way that only had 85, so I didn't have much choice but to put 85 in, and it ran just fine though mpg fell off a bit.

I have a 2012 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. My average is right around 37mpg, which I am pretty happy with.

 

I'm in South Florida, so I usually have the a/c on a lot too, except at night. When I drive 10+ miles with no a/c in normal city/suburb traffic, I'll usually get a 43-46mpg score at the end of the drive. The a/c during the day will easily drop that number to 38-42, and it'll be lower if its a shorter trip with less brake regeneration.

 

In this car, if I can get 35+mpg, i'm pretty happy. To be able to drive a car as big as ours and get the milage of a car significantly smaller, is amazing.

Combined on 10-12 FFH and MKZH is 39, 36 highway, 41 city, so if you get between these numbers you are doing good, go above and doing even better. Would have really been something if the percentages of the 10-12 carried over to the 13, but that isnt holding up, still, the 13 HyTi is probably my favorite sedan, replacing the 1992 Crown Vic I had as the favorite. My favorite of all has got to be my Flex, I just love that car!
