Metadata started streaming over BT

Recommended Posts

I have a Samsung Galaxy S III. BT audio streaming of Pandora and Rhapsody plays beautifully -- goes for hours on end without missing a beat. However, metadata has never been displayed in MFT. I've always seen "forward" and "pause" buttons on the display, and they've worked correctly in pausing or advancing to the next song (as do the steering-wheel buttons), however, I've never been able to see either the song title or artist's name in the MFT display or on the right dash display. I know that when this phone is updated to Android 4.3, it will include the technology to transfer metadata, but it hasn't been updated yet. It still reads "4.1.2," an early Jelly Bean.

Yesterday, though, I suddenly started seeing all the metadata (except the album art) in both displays. I'm very grateful; it's so cool, but I'm mystified about why this happened without any update to the device or to MFT, which is still on 3.5.1. Is it possible that the carrier, Verizon in this case, could have silently pushed an update to their overlay software that would enable metadata but not show up on the "Phone Info" page?

I just recently got a Pandora Update on my Iphone that mentioned something about this. I dont stream over BT, but use the USB instead for cleaner sound, so cant recall if I ever saw the info on MFT.

I sure never considered the possibility that a Pandora update could have enabled the transmission of metadata across BT. I don't see how such an update could do that, but in the absence of any other plausible explanation, I'm ready to buy it.

Thanks.

I also have the Galaxy 3 and have been seeing the artist and title since we first bought the car on August 21st, when streaming Pandora via BT. Phone has Android version 4.1.2 with Pandora being version 4.5.1
