Oil Life Monitor

I should be up for an oil change in about seven weeks

Where can I get my Motor Oil tested ( Web site Link Please) to see the Real Life of the oil. Background for oil useage. We live in a Very Large city, travel on I-95 to and from work daily , 5-days a week, your basic city driven car. We bought the car New in Feb. 2013 with 12.0 miles on it.

As usual I'm having a problem with my dealership. I just had a Dealership oil change at 5012.0 Miles on the mileage indicator. Now at 6888.0 Miles I show 27% oil life. The Math says I've gone 1876.0 miles on a Fresh oil change by the dealership.

The oil LOOKS pretty clean, ( not to dark amber color) enough for 2K mileage maybe. So I'm wondering if they did not reset the oil life indicator at the time of the oil change. That should be a Basic no brainer to reset the oil life at the time of the oil change by the dealership. But then again look who I'm dealing with, the same ones that said No problems with the clicking noise in your front end, That's a Normal Noise, NOT. Thank God that's Fixed now.

So where can I send a sample of my oil to get it tested to see if they even did the oil change. They Charged the Company $40.00 on the invoice and it says 5 XO 5w20 DSP Oil, as it was my First Free oil change.

Now I don't know if it was really changed or not.

What do you guys think?

It should be a no brainier for them to reset the monitor, but I've rub into two dealers that consistently forget to do it. One dealer even has a banner strung at the top of the garage exit reminding techs to reset the oil monitors.

 

I always check before leaving the dealer. It looks like your dealer failed to reset the monitor.

They didn't reset it.

10,000 miles is 100%.

6,888 miles is 68.88%.

100% - 68.88% is 31.12% remaining. Close enough to 27%.

Time is the other factor in the equation. ie. 10,000 miles or 1 year whichever comes first.

For the record you didn't need an oil change at 5,000 miles.

What percentage of that 5,000 miles was in electric mode?

There was a lot less than 5,000 miles on the ICE.

That's why I'm bring this up, I don't know if they REALLY changed the oil and that is a True reading of 27%. I would agree, IF the oil was not changed at 5K miles but 80% Life does sounds more like it and even the Cheapest oil changing place in town gives you a little oil reminder sticker on the windshield to tell you when the next Oil change is. The Ford Dealership should at least do the same or reset the Oil Life , IMHO. Plus I have Other issues that I'll have to take the car in for fixing, such as, the Battery Saver is now coming on every time we start the car. I haven't even made it through the First year of ownership with this car and can't wait to get rid of it.

 

Oh Yeah, the car Style and Gas mileage is Great, But the Ford People, I would rather NOT deal with Ever again. This is the Second worst New Car experience I've ever had with a Brand New Car. The First was a New Ford Van. I should have learned my Lesson then. The Van was from a different Ford dealership. This Ball game is going to be a short one, not even three strikes and you're out, only going Two rounds with Fords and this one is Over.

Just Look at ALL the problems Ford Fusions are having right in This Forum Web Site alone. Sorry for the Venting but Ford isn't listening, that's for sure.

Try Blackstone Labs (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/). Other users have recommended them in the past. I've never used them but it seems that they charge a reasonable price for their services.

I had the service people, they are not very good at what they do, so I'll call them People not Tech's. Re-set the Oil Life Monitor, as I wanted more evidence by them on paper it was done to Verify the Oil Change, so that's done and on paper, along with the Re-Charge of the Battery for the Battery Saver Problem which They can't fix either, see my other post, where they say it's Normal for these Hybrids to have this Battery problem, Yes, they wrote that in My report. What a Joke these people are.

Anyway car is OK for now and we are Looking at the New Toyota Avalon. Not as Sporty as the Fusion but Rock Solid Car and Dealership. That's where I got my 12 Tundra and they treat me like customers should be treated, First Class all the way.

When any of my vehicles go in for service, I watch who's working on it. I trust no one. For fluid changes, I always check levels and fluid condition before I leave. I would rather reset the oil life monitor myself and will tell them that. I have 3 years free service so I will let the dealer do it all until that expires. Then I will be changing fluids myself.

Blackstone does the oil analysis, I have had it done several times for the F350 to determine oil life, well worth it. If you go to their wedsite, you can request they send you a sample kit, you fill the bottle with oil, tape it up, and ship it back to them. In a few days they email you a pdf of the report and explain everything in it.

I just did my first oil change at 10k miles. The life monitor showed 2% and was yelling at me every time I turned the car on :)

The oil life monitor in all Ford vehicles works on the same principles. Miles, time, idle time, hours on engines etc. are all calculated to formulate the percentage you see on the dash. So someone who drives all highway miles will have a different % vs miles than someone who drives a mix or city only.

Also based on engine temperature, hours of on time, extreme hot or cold start conditions. Theres alot more than just milage in them.
