Geremy13 Report post Posted August 8, 2013 How Do I Watch Movies on MyFord Touch? Hello All, and I am so appreciative of all the information that is available to us. I just have a question on how to do this. It is pretty much 2 part. The first part is how do you do it in PARK?... It says that it can do it but I can't figure it out. I am with a computer-electronics company so I pretty much have access to everything. I tried it tonite with an i-touch and the device told me that my accessory was unsupported (probably because I did'nt buy the cable from Apple.)....... But... I am not a big Apple guy anyway....... So........ how can I watch video from my Samsung Galaxy,,,,, or USB flash drive, ... or any other device. (I suppose I could pick up a USB DVD portable device...... ).... but would like to do it as simple as possible..... I also suppose I could buy a cable from Apple that works with our current Apple devices. Best of all ,, I would like to just pop in a DVD into the player and watch it from there........... BUT>>>???? (clue me in if that's possible.) Part 2: After accomplishing the above,,,,, how can I do this while in DRIVE? I see that there are 3rd party devices that I can buy to get this done (at a considerable price and modifications)... but want to get this done cheaply. NOTE: I don't want to watch videos while driving but my wife would like to on a long trip. All help appreciated. Thanks.

This is also the reason why the iPhone is not supported on MFT. Interesting. And I thought the same as well, BUT... the devices that have the video (RCA) cables seem to be mostly Apple. I was able to get the iTouch to work briefly but my device says that the cable is unsupported.,, probably because I didn't buy it from Apple. On the other hand it might be detecting that I am connecting it to a Microsoft product... :) Still would like to figure a way to do it easily and cheaply. neod192 Report post Posted August 19, 2013 Like you already know, you can watch movies only when connected through the RCA inputs. You can't use BT, USB or the built-in CD (no DVD) drive. It sounds like you're on the right track - you already tried an iPod with RCA cables and it didn't work. Try your RCA cable and iPod combination on a regular TV. That will tell you if the problem really is the cable (as the iPod says) or MFT. If it still doesn't work on a TV, buy another cable. If it works on the TV, but not MFT you'll need another device to play the video ...

I did try it with out the usb pluged into one of the usb ports because I thought that might interfere but still no luck. Tried with parking brake on also. Let you know if and when I figure itout. Tried the Apple cable again today and it worked as long as the car was in park. Video and audio. I think the 30pin connector was just not plugged in the the iPhone 4S correctly. Still working on heaving contact pictures show up and no luck so far. Edited September 17, 2013 by John M Young
Geremy13 Report post Posted September 17, 2013 I'm still working on this one. I think I need to buy a cable from apple. I like the idea of my wife's iTouch... because I can just leave it in the center console and not worry about it. Other than that I might buy a portable DVD player for those late romantic nights.... when we actually pull the car out of the garage..... drive down our driveway and pull into the grass in our front yard..... open the moonroof..... look at the stars..... and then watch something romantic... like " I Love Lucy". 1 acdii reacted to this

GrySql Report post Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) Has anyone figured out how to do this? I'm looking to order a new cable to work with my wifes I touch...Way back in April we found out that you can't watch movies in the FFH while it's moving with MFT 3.5.1.I've connected my iPhone 4 using the a Composite w/USB to 30-pin and watched a video on the 8" screen. That can only be done when in Park, so has little use. I haven't tried it with MFT 3.6.2 yet. There is a software that you can buy that breaks that code.Look here: http://www.navtv.com/MyTouch/myfordtouch.htmlOr here: http://www.coastaletech.com/mytouch2.htm No other way that I know of other than buying an Ipad and load it with videos. GrySql Report post Posted September 25, 2013 Much better picture quality too... and it's portable! :)That is true, the screen in the FFH is just standard video, watching a movie on it was pretty ordinary. The Retina Display on the new iPad is amazing, if you use HD video.Mine works great for that use, in the front seat for the wife or the backseat for the grand-kids. 1 SteveB_TX reacted to this
corncobs Report post Posted September 25, 2013 Now you can buy a Seagate Wireless Plus hard drive you can mount that into car and stream movies directly of the hard drive with it's built in wireless server. It also has a built in battery which last up to 10 hours always nice for a short roadtrip. 2 Geremy13 and GrySql reacted to this

Thank you, Thank you,,, I will look into this. Really wasn't interested in watching movies other than mostly in park.... But cracking code is somewhat of an interest.... and it would be nice that the wife could watch a show on our trips... it's not like I'm going to look down at the MFT to use the navigation, change the radio station, set the A/C temp... so I'm sure I wouldn't be distracted by the wife watching a show.. Now you can buy a Seagate Wireless Plus hard drive you can mount that into car and stream movies directly of the hard drive with it's built in wireless server. It also has a built in battery which last up to 10 hours always nice for a short roadtrip. So yes,,, tell me about this...... Will the MFT pick up off of this? It doesn't on my phone,,,, because it's not supported. Won't even pick up internet from the phone. But teach me how to do this on this wireless hard drive and I'll purchase on tonite!... Thank you!
corncobs Report post Posted September 28, 2013 So I just spend 1/2 hour messing around with idea and unfortunately my dream to watch videos on the MFT got busted. Actually for me that wasn't the reason I bought the Seagate wireless since you couldn't watch while driving anyway. I bought it with the idea in mind to stream to my iPhone or a future iPad within the car. So long story short I can connect to the wireless no problem but I have no idea what you can actually do with the wireless connection. It appears that you can only use Bluetooth devices for stream and not even videos > music only. So it's a great device but not usable to stream videos on the MFT that only works with the AUX input. murphy Report post Posted September 28, 2013 If you connect the wireless drive to the car and then also connect a laptop to the car via wireless the laptop should be able to access the drive. It should work unless there are more stupid restrictions like the 10 character limit on the key for the wireless client.

Now if you would have a USB wireless all streaming devices would use the internet connection thru the Seagate which would be connected to the cars hotspot acting as gateway to the internet access. Not that there would a real use case for this scenario. 1 Geremy13 reacted to this
