Instantaneous Fuel Economy Gauge

My instant fuel use gauge level "wobbles" about 3 times / sec. Being Canadian, I have liters per 100 kilometers as units and the level moves a full liter about 3 times a second at all power settings except EV. Any body else experience this? Haven't brought it to the dealer's attention yet. Don't want to hear " that's normal".

I saw the jitterbugging instant mileage and I wonder if the gauge reflects the aerodynamic changes from winds, other vehicles, etc. Being twitchy because of real-time external pressures?

I wonder if it is affected by ethanol content. At home in BC I haven't used ethanol blend-hardly available - but we're on a trip to Vancouver WA and I filled with 10% in Cle Elum. That was the lowest I could find. I'll see if it clears up when I get home.

Incidentally, 2 mountain passes and a rear bike rack with 2 bikes drops the mileage quite noticeably. The ethanol doesn't help either.

Happened on mine once, and I know it wasnt the gas since I get gas at the same place all the time. It came and went and came back and went away, all on the same tank. Hasnt done it since.

I saw this just recently again on our car. The next time I started the car it went away. No idea why.

Mine did something weird today it never did before, it growled. A really low mean growl too. I could see the gauge flutter in time with the growl. I guess my car didn't like having a jeep so close behind her.

Yes my FE guage did that too when ICE was running at low rpm. It keeps bouncing up and down. I wonder why may be the cvt is slipping giving false signal to torque sensor. This didn't happen when it was new. Edited September 8, 2013 by majorleeslow

Mine still does that, but I found out, it was the noise cancellation that is making the growl. Really freaky too.
