Pandora or other Internet radio

Recommended Posts

In prior threads regarding Sirius radio, some forum members stated they don't use Sirius, they stream Pandora. I use Pandora when I am on my computer at home or in the office, streaming off their Wi-Fi connections. I haven't been using it in the car because my cell phone plan has a 5GB limit. Is there a setting, either in the car, or possibly through the phone (I have an iPhone 5) that allows me to stream via Wi-Fi instead of using data?

You would have to have the phone connected to WIFI for it to stream over that instead of the carrier. When I am not on the road my iphone uses the Wifi for streaming.

Do you know how I would adjust the settings so I can stream over Wi-Fi? Is this a setting in the car, or the phone? I went into my phone's settings and went to Wi-Fi, but no networks appeared.

How do you expect to have a Wi-Fi data connection when you're on the road? If the phone is connected to Wi-Fi, it will stream over Wi-Fi, but if it's not connected to Wi-Fi it'll use the data plan.

In the phone's settings you can search for and connect to Wi-Fi networks. My phone connects to Wi-Fi by itself when I'm home or a place I've connected ti Wi-Fi before (parents / friends house, etc).

You would need to set up a WiFi hotspot in your car but that would require that phone is used as the Internet connection for your car kinda like a modem!

I would just guess that this is not want you want correct?

You would need to get a wireless Internet card which would plug in to the USB and this hotspot could be used by your phone and by the car.

I would think that's an expensive solution.

Depending on your Pandora account streaming uses between 1.1GB and 1.78GB if you would listen 1 hour a day for 20 days while commuting.

There are a couple websites on this topic.

Thanks for the answer - I didn't think there was a way to do it, but I wasn't sure. Since I know Sync services can retrieve text messages from certain phones, I thought perhaps it might be possible. I guess I'll just stick with the music on my phone and iPod b/c I don't want to run the risk of getting charged additional fees on my AT&T bill - it's already more than I want to pay!

I count myself lucky for still having the unlimited data plan for my iPhone from AT&T.

Same here with Verizon. I havent really looked at my usage, but the times I do, I use around a Gb a month.

I broke my old iphone and so went my unlimited data. I now have a 4 Gb plan and have used less than a gig this month.

I buy off contract just to keep my unlimited data plan. Bandwidth caps are criminal, the congestion excuse has been dis-proven many times. The cloud concept is never going to work until caps are lifted.
