Oil Life. How is this figured?

Recommended Posts

I was going through the menu on my 2010 Milan yesterday and noticed the Oil Life was at 61%. Anyone know how this is calculated? Is it purely based on miles since the last change? If so, Do I need to reset it after a change and how do I reset it? It has been a little over 4K miles since my last oil change, so this would be a fairly close estimate.

BTW, my lifetime fuel economy is at 42.1 mpg, not too shabby for a 2010 that has traveled coast to coast a couple of times.

Thanks

It's based on miles and time, 10,000 miles or 1 year I think (I no longer have a 2010). Yes it needs to be reset when the oil is changed. Somewhere in the left menu system is a place to reset it. If a dealer changed your oil they should have done the reset. If you change your own oil then you will have to reset it.

Be wary of shyster dealers though. Those sneaky buggers will not only reset the oil change reminder, but they could also reset the interval down to 3000 miles, just to get you in more. That dealer I mentioned in a previous thread, did just that to my mom's TownCar.

The dealer always marks the next oil change at 3K miles on the window sticker, like they or I don't know the service recommendation.. The service interval is 10K miles, but I have been changing it at 5K as it starts to turn darker at that mark. I'm thinking about switching to full syn oil next change @ 30K miles.

Yeah mine does that too. But to go into the vehicle settings and change the time interval down to 3K, thats just mean.
