keithsm2 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 Thank you.... I am patient and appreciate everybody's input. Your comments are very encouraging (For You!). But I drive 3-10 mile 'Trips' regularly and I'm struggling to get 34-37 even driving like a grandma. Fortunately I live in a town where nobody minds me driving 20MPH in a 40MPH zone (as long as there's noone behind me ;) ) :)I think with your short trips...you will struggle to get much better mileage......I drive about 6 to 7 miles to work......i think this is about the minimum to get any where near the EPA results...... I watch my 6 minute MPG intervals closely......The first 6 minutes of 90% of my trips have a low MPG....mainly due to the engine having to warm up.... Charrua Report post Posted July 19, 2013 Geremy13, I struggled to get above 40mpg during the first 5,000 miles. I'd say 43 is great considering how new the car is. Quite honestly I was disappointed in the my car, and thought I made a mistake until I had between 5k and 10k miles. I thought something may have been wrong with the car, my driving, or ford's marketing. Turns out I just had to let it break in. My average in the first 5k was around 38mpg. The 2nd 5k was around 41-42, and I'm on track to have an average of 45mpg at the 15,000 mile mark. So hang in there, 43mpg before the first oil change is great. I had an identical experience. I have just over 4k and I picked it up early April, so I'm on track for 15k/year.

terryb Report post Posted July 20, 2013 Do you s'pose if I ground 0.050 off all the pistons that would be equal to more breakin? I'm at 6kmi now.
GrySql Report post Posted July 20, 2013 Do you s'pose if I ground 0.050 off all the pistons that would be equal to more breakin? I'm at 6kmi now.My car has almost 11k miles and had a 38+ Lifetime Average and I was resigned to it, love the car otherwise. Ever since I had that battery re-calibration done 2 weeks ago (TSB 13-6-23) my car has lost over 2 MPG's from the Lifetime Average, it's 36.4 overall and dropping like a rock. Yet, I've had a couple 40 mile runs that were the best I've ever seen since that re-calibration, which is confusing. The distinction of those two trips were that I had an easy downhill for the first couple of miles and the HVB got a very high SOC and then wanted to stay that way for the other 80% of the trips length. Yesterday I did a local trip that I can usually get mid-40's if I try hard, didn't happen.Doing my best hypermiling it got 29.6 mpg's, the ICE was running most of the time no matter what I did.The HVB just went flat in no time and stayed in the Charging Mode most of the trip.I doubt that the TSB can be reversed to the older calibration. I'll wait for this new 'economy software upgrade' and the new design Fuel Module to come in and then visit the Dealer and have both done.

GrySql Report post Posted July 20, 2013 Whatchu' talkin' 'bout Willis? What's this you say about a new design fuel module? :)The new design Fuel Delivery Modules are starting to show up at some Dealerships so they can replace the existing, original Fuel Modules with the newer ones, as per the Recall. These are also called 'Outstanding Field Actions' - Recall 13S04 - FUEL DELIVERY MODULE REPLACEMENT 1 Aquineas reacted to this
aschulz261 Report post Posted July 21, 2013 hah I have 4200+ already on mine! I got it June 4th.I got mine on June 5th and just rolled over 4200 today. So far, mine has been from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania, Virginia, South Carolina and back to Wisconsin. That trip was just over 2000 miles and averaged 39 mpg. I left Wisconsin and have gone through Nebraska and am currently in Colorado on my way to Las Vegas with a final destination in LA to put it on a boat to send it home to Hawaii. So far it is averaging 38.5 with the cruise set at 78 for the past 2 days. It has a lifetime average of 39.1. With the amount of freeway driving, I think that average is pretty good. 3 Aquineas, acdii and corncobs reacted to this
