SgtMaj65Cobra Report post Posted June 21, 2013 Hello All!, Well I've finally had my new baby a month now, Love my Titanium Hybrid. A couple of nights ago I bend over to pick something up next to the car and placed my hand on the front fender right over the headlight when I noticed that both my front fenders up by my headlights were warm to the touch, so I popped the hood and the whole engine compartment was very warm borderline HOT, I could place my hand on them, and keep it there, but it is VERY WARM, like I just shut the car off. The only thing is, it had been off for almost 4 hours. I drive an hour each way to work and I'm getting 39.2 mpg. I haven't been running the AC much, and I've received NO warnings what so ever. I called the dealer and they told me to trust my gauges. The plastic shroud over the engine is warm and the metal Hybrid box is very warm. (kind of like the bottom of your laptop after a couple of hours of use) Nothing smells funny, like electric burning, and the hood is not warm to the touch either. In the morning I've checked it and it's not ice cold, but not even close to warmth the night before. Is any one noticing this. I know there is a recall out there, but I checked my VIN and according to Ford I'm good. Appreciate any feedback. Have a good nightRich
lolder Report post Posted June 21, 2013 It's probably normal. There are fairings under the engine compartment to reduce drag which reduce ambient air circulation that would cool a hot engine compartment when parked.
murphy Report post Posted June 21, 2013 What is the ambient temperature? If it's in the 90s an engine is not going to cool down very fast and it can't go lower than the ambient temperature.
acdii Report post Posted June 21, 2013 Most normal on these cars. The engine needs to be warm to get the best fuel burn, so retaining heat is a good thing.
SgtMaj65Cobra Report post Posted June 22, 2013 Thanks guys. After reading this, it all makes sense. I forgot about the fairings :hammer_self: (Thanks lolder)acdii, your right retaining heat with these cars is a good thing. My dealer is great and they even called me back to follow up and ensure all was good with my baby, and pretty much said the same thing. A little bit of a learning curve for me. This is my first CAR...I mean CAR!, Since I've been able to drive some 30+ yrs ago I've only driven pick-ups (Of course they've ALL been FORD's) Well with the exception of my Cobra, which is only a weekend fun machine. Again Thanks guys. CheersRich
