New Star Trek Movie

We went last Friday to see it in Imax, and I have to say, Excellent job revamping the series. All the actors have taken over the roles of the originals in such a way as to make them their own, yet maintain that quirkiness we all loved about TOS.

 

So for those who saw it, how long before you figured out who the villain was before it was revealed? At one point in the movie before the reveal, I leaned over to my wife and whispered who he was, she said, no, it cant be. Sure enough, it was!

 

They did an excellent job with a whole new twist on the story.

We have the Showboat Drive-In Theater a few miles down the road in Hockley. Two screens each showing separate double features on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. $6 per adult, $4 per kid, dogs welcome, plenty of concession (and at a good price).

 

I was busy when they first showed ST:ID. I hope they bring it back and I will pile the lady friend and the pups into the car and have the Sony Audio on Surround mode!

I have given up on theaters. I've got a 61" 3D TV and 6.1 surround in the house.

The last trip I made to see a movie the sound track for MI3 was so loud I couldn't wear my hearing aids.

Red Box at $1.50 for Blu-Ray is a good thing too.

Gotta agree with terryb; movies have gotten way too loud. I won't watch one of the "Hollywood Blockbuster" movies (which are usually about as memorable as bread-crusts anyway) in the theater anymore..

We have a 64" Plasma 3D with 7.1 surround and do the same thing, unless its a movie we really want to see. Avengers, RED(RED2 is soon), STID, and Iron Man 3, all movies that need to go BOOM, but the new Superman I will wait for Blueray. Some movies are just meant to be seen on the big screen. The rest we will wait for the BR copy and watch it at home. I do agree though the IMAX was way too loud. They had Battleship playing there, and the theater next to it was playing something else that we were watching and the explosions from Battleship were drowning out the movie we were watching.

Dang, I'm lagging behind. I've still only got a 55". I had two roommates recently move out so I was planning on going all out with theater seating in one room with an HD projector and super duper surround sound system, but how much I actually watch movies at home, it is not worth it. I'd probably just end up playing my old N64 in there anyways.

I finally got a chance to see it this last weekend and I agree it is a great movie. The chemistry between the characters is spot on, the story is good and the action is better. I typically stay home these days to watch movies, but some movies you just have to see on the big screen.

I saw it on my birthday (this past Thursday), and I agree, it was well done. My partner figured out who the villian was before it was revealed. I'm not enough of a "Trekkie" to have known who it was before it was revealed.

I also usually wait for Blu-Ray, but not for the same reason as everyone else has mentioned. My partner is blind, and it was very difficult to try to explain what is happening on the screen, especially at the theatre. Most Blu-Rays have an additional audio track called "Descriptive for the Vision Impaired." This actually has an additional audio track which describes what is happening on the screen, but doesn't speak over dialogue. I actually like it, because not only do I not have to describe it myself, but I can do other things (i.e. email or FFH Forum!) and still follow what is going on.

On the rare occasion that we do go out to the movies, we go to the drive-in. We are lucky to have one, and it's open year round since we are in South Florida!

My wife and I have effectively quit going to movies anymore as well. We shoot an overhead HD Projector to a 90 inch image that rivals the "big screen" anyway and with Digital Sound into a 7.1 sound system, who needs the theater.

 

Now with all of that BS said, we have been talking about going to the new ST movie, I am a Trekkie and we both loved the last Chris Pine version of the classic.

I saw it while I was on vacation in Florida. It was really good. Definitely worth watching at the theaters. It is definitely worth the rotten tomatoes rating it got (87%). Definitely one to own in the future.
