Check with your Bank/Credit Union on participating car buying programs.

Recommended Posts

As the title states your bank/credit union usually have car buying programs that will beat X-plan price (which isn't as good of a deal anyways). If you are either active or prior service, USAA and NFCU have really great purchasing programs and incentives.

I had checked around and the deal I am getting is very hard to beat unless you have an A plan, or can buy below invoice. A quick check with Truecar shows invoice on the one I ordered at $34,503, With my trade thats what mine is coming out at after TTL.

I actually purchased my car $300 below invoice price. That was before the $1500 incentive. I purchased mine out of state. It was so painless.

I've used USAA and Pentagon Federal Credit Union (PenFed) for car shopping and financing. While the USAA / Zag car plan is good be aware you still pay the standard advertised "Dealer Fees" that can be outrageous. Dealers around here charge up to $750 in "Dealer Fees" that may make X-plan, which limits those fees to $100, the better choice. It has been my experience that X-plan is is usually fairly close price wise to USAA on the vehicle price but the $100 Fee cap makes X-plan the winner if just barely. If "Dealer Fees" aren't as ridiculous in your area as in mine that may make USAA more attractive. Interestingly PenFed somehow always lands in the middle of my spreadsheet.

So, wait a minute, you ordered another HyTi now? Is that replacing the 2010 FFH? What happened to looking at a C-Max Energi?

I ordered the HyTi back in March to replace the troublesome SE, and they kept the order but changed the color when I got the Flex. After looking at the Cmax, and the dealership that sells them wasn't going to do anything to make the purchase worth while, I decided to just go for it and get the car I really wanted in the first place, even if it IS in Black and not Blue.

Things are starting to show signs of needing replacement on the 10. The AC compressor is howling, and one of the fans sounds like a bearing is going on it, and since its out of warranty now, and needing tires, its either dump a couple grand into it, or trade it off on one with a warranty and this one will be getting a 125K PremiumCare ESP from the start.

Ok, cool. I'm sure you look forward to the HyTi! It's an excellent car. I can't wait to see you get 50+ MPG out of it :) :happy feet:

For now, just calling it Betty's Child. Lets see how many can get the reference for that one! It's also a match to my Flex, Darth Vagon, same color.

It was Destiny too. The first day I got my kids in the Flex and they saw the Vista sunroofs, they were WOW COOOL. Then my son piped up, Now we need a Black Fusion. My wife looked at me with huge eyes because we had just found out that the car I had ordered prior to deciding on the Flex was changed to Tuxedo Black from the DIB. She then said, how did HE know!

I got my HyTi almost two weeks ago (special order) and got it for $100 under invoice. I also got the $500 rebate and $750 coupon (thanks to people on this site). Of course, I did pay sales tax, the $799 destination charge, $540 advertising assessment as well as $47.88 for a tank of gas (which cost them a few bucks as gas prices are at $4/gal where I live!).

I never thought about USAA, but I went and checked their online "estimator," since we're USAA members. Very pleasantly surprised on one of the three cars we're looking at- the top trim VW Passat TDI comes out under $30K, and one of the three (the Honda non-PHEV hybrid) hasn't been released yet, so it's still a question mark. The big shocker was the FFH Titanium- the estimator said only $800 off MSRP, over $36K the way we had it configured. When the time comes, I'll probably just float 5 dealers with Internet sales an offer $500 below invoice. If nobody wants to negotiate off that....it'll be another car.
