Recommended Posts

I thought this was pretty cool, imagine the possibilites if this technology makes its way into car batteries.

With a laugh, she predicted that "I will be setting the world on fire."

Literally, my Galaxy Note II has a massive battery and even after charging for an hour it gets HOT. In 30 seconds, it would explode and I would have lawyers calling me urging to start a lawsuit against this poor gal.

Edit: After posting I noticed this seemed a little like bashing. It's a remarkable achievement and in a few years coupled with some other remarkable designs, very possible and very beneficial.

Thanks for sharing. This piece caught my eye:

The top prize at the fair went to 19-year-old Ionut Budisteanu of Romania, who used "artificial intelligence to create a viable model for a low-cost, self-driving car," according to an Intel statement. He received the Gordon E. Moore Award, named after the Intel co-founder, which includes a $75,000 prize.

Go Romanians!

I just read more about this than was on the article. It seems like it's a new type of battery AND a type of charging device. Methinks more practical now.

Does anyone remember that movie Logans Run that made it to a TV show? There was a solar powered car in that, so Who knows!

Yes, I remember the movie quite well and even have it on DVD. Your saying there are cars in the movie? :headscratch: I don't recall seeing any cars... ;) Now I'll have to watch it again :lurk: just to see the solar powered car.... :)

Since my HOA bans solar panels on homes I wonder what they would say to a solar powered car parked in my driveway.....

It is not a battery, but a capacitor. Not anywhere near being ready for consumer use. A capacitor stores energy, but in a much different way than a battery. Thus, it can charge very quickly. heat is not an issue, as it would be in a quick charge battery.

The TV series had the car in it.

While I, on the other hand, cannot wait for the invention of Larry Niven's transfer booth technology. Enter your co-ordinates, and you're there. Can't come soon enough for me. It's amazing how "bonded" one can be to cars at 19, and at 69 I perceive them more as a necessary evil than anything.
