2013 FFH is arriving in June, it's almost fully loaded , however I did not get the navigation option on it.... Is there any way I could somehow get navigation? Thru sync? App link? Just wondering... Thanks. I was thinking of buying a tablet and just keeping it in the car and using my phones "tethered" data plan to create a wifi signal.... Any suggestions or info is greatly appreciated.

You get 3 years of sync services, which gives you turn by turn directions. I think you'll even get a visual if the next turn, you just don't get the map on the 8" screen.

If you have a phone with a data plan, just get a car mount and use that instead...

Well Sync services requires you to call a US phone number to get the service. Do you want to call to the US on your cell phone every time you need directions? But it doesn't matter, it's only has a database of North American maps and destinations anyway. In fact Sync services stops working when I drive just 2 km into Canada.

“Navigation Capabilities on All MyFord Touch Cars - But It Ships Disabled

Ford explains: When you take delivery of a Ford with MyFord Touch or Lincoln with MyLincoln Touch, you get a vehicle with an 8-inch touchscreen and you also get the navigation application embedded in the car. But it's no good without the navigation SD card, for which you pay $795, and then Ford activates the car and enables navigation. That apparently means you can choose to have factory onboard navigation the day you take delivery. Or, later on, you can choose between factory navigation or a third-party portable GPS system that will be clunky, take up space on the windshield, and cost half what Ford charges.”

I have been looking for a dealer to do this for me. No luck so far but I will post and msg you in I find one please do the same for me.

You will not find a dealer that can do it. Activating the nav on MFT requires a special "unlocking" file, and the dealers do not have access to it. Otherwise, dealer's would just order all their cars without nav, then activate it themselves for free. The software developers would then never get their duly earned license fees.

You may be correct. If so why do several major news outlets have the quoted story and ones like it coming form named Ford sources. You can google it and find it or if you really want my sources I will google it and post the URLs. Not trying to be argumentative just trying to figure it out. Chrysler also has a similar program.

Thanks

Although I already have Google's navigation app on my smartphone. I purchased the TomTom app for my phone ($65 for US and Canada or ~$45 for just US). The advantage is that it costs 1/10th that of Ford's built in navigation and gets free map updates. It can go with me where ever I am rather than being stuck in my FFH. Also I happen to like having the navigation screen closer eye level on the dash rather than having to look halfway down the console. This help reduce the time that my eyes leave the road.

The one drawback to the Tom Tom navigation is that it is quite clunky to use. However, unlike Google's navigation app, all the maps are stored on my smartphone so it doesn't need a data connection (e.g. out of cell tower range).

Honestly, I think Ford's voice activated navigation was way too expensive, especially the price of map updates. Ford could have partnered with a major map provider and come up with a less costly option.
