Getting a good deal?

Just talked with my local dealer and they have found me a HyTi. They are quite rare around here so it's nice I will hopefully have mine soon. It's tuxedo black and pretty much fully loaded, only option missing is the active park assist which I don't want. The quote they gave me was $34,342 before any rebates or incentives which puts it about 5% over invoice. I want to buy it from them as they have a 20 year/200,000 warranty. Does this sound like a good deal or should I see if they can go any lower? If you think I might be able to go lower do you have any tips? Thanks for any input.

That sounds like a very good deal! If it's the car you want, with the options you want, i would jump on it. That is assuming it has all options minus park assist, as stated.

You will be hard-pressed to find a better deal on a HyTi off the lot. If you order you could definitely beat that price, it's just the issue of waiting if you order. You will want to act fast though because they are selling in a matter of days. A few months back Ford published that the hybrids spend an AVERAGE of something like 2 days on the dealer lots before selling. The HyTi cars are rare and seem to be selling even faster

It's the same as the original post without the moonroof so it's not quite as good a deal as the original but still workable. I'll try working that against other dealers to see if I can get a better price since the deposit is refundable. Any tips on how or if I could get that even lower? I'd be OK with that price but will always try and look for a better deal.

Do you have the prices for the 14 models? Base price and all the options?

Are you attached to a particular dealer? Otherwise I would contact a variety of dealers and tell them you want to order a 2014 FFH at invoice price and see which ones will agree. It shouldn't been too hard to find someone willing to sell you an order out at invoice price

Just what "invoice price" are you talking about. There's the MSRP invoice price and the Dealer's Invoice price.

Like neod says, the published invoice price that's available from KBB and Edmunds and that the dealer can also show you in their order system

The reason to ask for this is because on a car that's order the dealer has lower costs. They still make profit on the holdback plus any rebates they might get from Ford that consumers aren't privy to.

 

Dealers have lower costs on orders because they aren't paying to put a car on the lot. My dealer explained it to me this way:

 

When dealers take delivery of a car for dealer stock they don't want to be out the cash up front before the car is sold so they have a financing company that pays Ford the cash for the car and then the dealer pays the financing company a fee for every month that the car sits on the lot. Once the dealer sells the car they pay the financing company an agreed upon price for that vehicle. That is why dealers are rushing to move cars before they have to take inventory at the end of the month and pay fees on the cars on their lot. That's also why once a car has sat on the lot a long time they will sell it cheaper in order to move it because the monthly fees are getting too high so they want it gone. When a customer places a factory order the dealer doesn't have to give some of their profits to the finance company because the car doesn't go on their lot and they then pay Ford directly since they are getting the money from the consumer in a few days. That is why most dealers will sell you a factory order cheaper than a car off the lot and there seem to be a number of dealers who will sell orders at invoice price. Their costs to prep the car, etc, are covered by the holdback and any volume rebates they get from Ford.

 

Our selling dealer is the largest Ford dealer in MN so they are getting volume rebates every month which allows them to sell cars cheaper because they make their profits on volume. Smaller dealers often charge more because they can't count on those volume rebates as a source of profit

Well, I played a few dealers off each other and it worked out great as I was able to get one ordered for $33,150 which is below the invoice price listed on Edmunds so I'm quite happy with that. It's also from the dealer I orginally talked to so I get the fantastic warrenty. Just wish I could get the cooled seats but I don't want to wait for them to become available as they'd be nice to have but not necessary. Thanks everyone for the replies.

If my calculations are correct, with tax title and license I would be getting a HyTi with ACC, Sunroof, nav and Drivers Assist pack for $34500. Does this seem like a good deal to you? This puts it roughly around $33,200.

The x-plan price for that is $34,657, so yes - $33,200 is a great deal!

Thats what I thought. the 2010 is only worth 16K now, in a year maybe 10 if lucky, buy the time its paid for, I will probably have to pay someone to take it! :) The number he put out there sounds good, better than anyone else can do.

 

It's their 10 year anniversary and I was one of their first customers too buying a big green F350 Dually diesel crew cab. If I do this it will be the 8th car from them in 10 years.

I got my hyti for 36,109 on a 36 month lease and with mileage set at 16k. This was tax, tittle, everything out the door. I got about 2,300 off the capitalized cost. Te car is fully loaded, no missing option. Not a steal of the century, but fair. Given an inventory of 11 titaniums in all of the southern ford network, I wasn't expecting much to come off. However, car price is just one part of the negotiation. To me, everything is negotiable and I go after things like maintenance, detailing which have little out of pocket to the dealer. So while I feel I got a very fair price on the car (which is always my ultimate goal i feel i can and should achieve vs walking feeling I robbed them or got robbed) I feel I made some nice gains via an extra year of maintenance, Five full details, tint, and the $175 deluxe Matt set thrown in for an extra $50

I never really did the numbers on the Titanium before. It makes sense to get it, in view of how we'd equip the SE, but that makes it come out $3-4K more than the other cars we're considering.....and that's going to be if the dealer comes in at invoice. At this stage, it also means rolling on a 2014, and we're probably going to want a bit lower than invoice. To get a price acceptable to us, if we can work a deal at all it's clearly going to be a "hand over the check" deal, where we order the car and pay cash on arrival.

It is hard to compare a HyTi to any other car price wise since no other car has the same options. This is assuming you actually add the options like drivers assist and adaptive cruise. The diffence in price between the SE I had and the HyTi I ordered was $600, but I removed the park assist I would never use, so $600 more for a car with everything I would want in it, vs a car with not everything and something I would never use.

Honestly unless you're buying an SE with limited options and cloth seats, it's better to get a HyTi for the price vs. features that you get.

Definitely! 100% agreed! The one I'm getting has everything I would want and use on the car, and doesn't have unneeded options like park assist that the other one had. So for the $600 or so more that this one costs over the SE I had, it is well worth it, more features with exact options. If you remove the PA from the SE then you are about $1600 different in price. When you add in the cost of what adding a better sound system to the SE would run, the difference is moot.

I would agree but the HyTi only being available in black interior is a deal killer for me.

Yes it does. My 2010 has Dune, although it is aftermarket leather of a higher quality. It shows dirt far more than the charcoal will. The 2010 Flex and 2012 F150 also had Dune interior and they also showed dirt more.

 

However with that being said, in EITHER case, both colors would be equally dirty, so get out that leather cleaner and start cleaning!

Yeah, dirt will tend to show up a little more, but that crap that accumulates in the seat folds is less noticeable. Either way it needs cleaned. haha. I do like that the floors remained black though, to avoid noticeable staining that I could see happening with a lighter carpet.

On the flipside of that though, black tends to hide things until its too late. On the Sport something was spilled that got past the all weather mat on the passenger side and ate the carpet. Wasn't until I started cleaning up when trading it in that I found the carpet start falling apart.
