anyone who HASN'T heard the cracking/popping/clicking noise?

Recommended Posts

I don't have my car yet, but it seems that almost everyone on the forum has experienced this noise after putting several hundred miles or so in their car. and of those who've gotten it repaired, it seems to come back after several more hundred miles. I was just wondering, is there anyone who has never had this problem? seems to be widespread. I sure hope they figure this out soon.

I have not heard it yet on my FFH (over 4100 miles). Hopefully, by the time I hear it, it won't have caused further damage and that whatever the underlying problem turns out to be, that they will have determined the proper fix for all of our vehicles.

that is good to hear! so maybe not all the FFHs have the issue.

I only know that "I have not heard it". Someone else mentioned in another thread something to the effect that since they were new to hybrid driving, that they weren't sure which noises were normal or not. I put myself in that same category. I have tried listening for it in vain, but perhaps an educated ear would hear what I do not. To me, this car in EV mode, is the quietest running car I have ever experienced.

I have not heard the noise even while listing for it.

The way it has been described here I would probably picked it up by now with 1700 miles on it.

I wrote that somewhere else maybe I'm just not hearing that well anymore after driving an HHR with a bad front end for years everything seems quieter than that.

I now have 6200 miles and have not heard anything unusual starting or stopping. I tried moving back and forth in the quiet of my garage/drive with windows down and did not hear anything.

When I heard it, it occurred under power, not at idle speed. You have to apply some throttle so it torques, same with braking, and never heard it in reverse.

I have not heard it either, but I'm new to a hybrid. What does surprise me is when I hear the ICE engine on accelerating....I get so used to the quiet (and its still much quieter than my last car)! I'm not complaining at all, love this car.

it's encouraging that so many aren't hearing it, but makes it hard for Ford to figure out what is wrong since it is so inconsistent.

Haven't heard it in mine. Probably around 2500 miles now.

**ETA** started hearing it just over 3000.

No clicky clunky noises, but the car's still almost brand new -- less than 300 miles.

The unpleasant noise, for me, is the sound of the Atkinson-cycle engine mated with that CVT. It doesn't sound like the "automobile engine" we've known all our lives. I'm not complaining, but it will take some getting used to.

Click and Clack once said that the easiest way to "restore power" to an engine is by replacing the muffler. What they meant is that when drivers hear a loud noise from depressing the accelerator, they instinctively want to back off the throttle. When the noise is gone, it allows them to continue pressing the pedal, giving them a sense of torque and power that they haven't felt in a while. They say they've actually had customers tell them how powerful the engine is once that old muffler's been replaced. Well, it's the sound of that whining Atkinson-cycle/CVT that makes me want to accelerate more slowly and makes me feel like the FFH's power plant is weaker than it probably really is. It's probably a good thing as it really inhibits me from "punching it" during break-in. I hope I get used to it eventually.

The best place to hear it is in a Big long covered parking Garage ( on a Sunday. LoL, no radio or air on, just quite as possible) when no cars are there. Open all your windows and do some stop and goes. Just normal taking off and stopping. If you have the problem you'll hear it when you first take off. It's loud enough to hear very well in a covered area. In fact mine is getting more pronounce as time and miles go by, right now 1750 miles. But then again MY dealer says It's Normal noise. They are ill equip to deal with anything more than a Pedal car and then I'd wonder about it. Contacting Ford Customer Service Monday to report them.

Mine getter louder too an more often even now slowing down to a few miles per hour, it is definitely NOT normal, my dealer tried to fix mine by changing out front right strut and bearing which did not work....

You are one of the LUCKY ones, I guess.

I now have a Ford Corp. case number and a Neg. Review against my Dealership.

I went by today (Mon. @ 10:AM) to get my receipt and it's still not finished, so I didn't get it but I informed them I contacted Ford Corp. and now the story has changed = You may come and pick it up your receipt tomorrow morning. From Sat. Morning to the following Tue. Morning just to get a receipt paper. How ridiculous is that. They must have had to get a Prof. Fiction Writer to write it up.

Do you guy's see any RED FLAGS here at this Dealership..... ????

See Post #-207 below for the rest of the story.

Bump

Have any of the newer owners had the cracking noise start? I'm especially curious for owners who have cars built after February 1st. You can check your build date on www.etis.ford.com

When commenting that you have not heard the noise please include your build date from Etis. Remember that the dates are dd/mm/yyyy and we need to reverse the month and date for our US date format. If you are a new owner who is experiencing the cracking noise, please post this information in the cracking noise thread so that we can keep the 2 groups separate.

I might also create a poll based on this topic
