WHat was Wrong with Your Fusion Hybrid When You Picked It Up?

Scratch on the wheel logo and the passenger seat belt has a litte rectangluar stiching area in it that's fraying, apparently that's normal though??

I just found 2 more things wrong with my car. The chrome trip (and plastic under it) on the passenger rear door sticks up and it really sharp. You could cut your hand if you close the door and accidentally slide your hand over it. Also on the outside of front windows, rear side - there's a rubber piece that's supposed to be flush to the plastic on the door. On both my front windows it starts flush, then it starts coming out as it gets closer to the top. It's better on the rear windows, but it still sticks out a little.

Seems like most issues have been fit and finish ones.

Is the scratch on your steering wheel or a tire rim?

Cargo net hooks missing. Other than that, I'm satisfied and somewhat in awe.

Evidently, all of us with cargo nets are destined to experience this as a right of passage ...

It was actually on the Ford logo cap on the wheel. They are just sending me a new logo cap to replace it, so all is well.

Edit:My cargo net didn't have the top hooks. The dealer had already installed it before I picked it up. I realized when I put some stuff in it today and the top loops on the cargo net came right off. It wasn't until I looked at the bottom hooks that I realized the top of the net was just held in place with little nubs where I guess the top hooks are supposed to snap on to. Awesome.

I still have a pair of hooks. Hanging on to them in case I happen to stumble upon another 13 FFH.

It seems there are quite a few sharp edges on the trim pieces. I've discovered that washing the car. I have to be very careful washing and drying around all the trim pieces so that I don't accidentally rip a piece off the car

Have you asked the dealer about changing them out under warranty?

I took it in and they're going to try and fix it, but not yet. I want to drive my car, so I didn't leave it with them :) In 2-3 weeks I'll take it back along for fixing, along with any other things I might find. Here's a blury (sorry :( ) pic of the trip on the rear passenger door. You can see how it's sticking out:

Oh yeah, that doesn't look very good. I have to admit, aside from the left rear tail light being a bit off, everything else on the one I had fit well. Whats funny is even after being in production since 2009, the plastic trim pieces on the Flex still have sharp edges on them. The vertical ones on either side of the front window have a sharp edge, so you need to be careful when cleaning them and the windshield so you dont cut yourself.

Mine looks exactly the same on the right rear door only. Guess ours were built by the same slacker.

I think they all have this feature. Mine had it and two others I was in did too.

Very similar to rear glass due to curvature in Corvettes.

When I picked up my Energi I had a paint scratch on the left front fender and a chip in the paint of the rear bumper where it forms a point behind the left wheel. Noted both to my salesman and sales mgr, unfortunately this was after paperwork had been completed. Finally got back 3 weeks later with a list of things to check out. Service said the salesman was responsible for dealing with the scratch on the fender and had him come get it and take it to the body shop. Supposedly it's been taken care of, but it is still in for service so I don't yet know what that means. The chipped paint has been sent to Ford (photos) and the dealer is waiting to hear from them if they'll warranty cover the repair.

 

Other items I suggest looking at before taking the car...

1. check the windshield washer spray alignment. Mine fire only about 6 inches from the bottom of the window. Because of this no fluid ever ends up above the driver side washer arm so the window in my field of view only gets a dry wiper blade run across it.

2. My rear window has a band in the middle all the way across where any objects viewed through this portion are distorted/wavy/mirage looking.

 

Otherwise, mine was perfect until the mystery popping/cracking/etc. noise started which is why it's still in for service.

 

 

I think they all have this feature. Mine had it and two others I was in did too.

 

So my service advisor called today. He submitted the second batch of photos he tried taking to document the rear window "mirage". I saw the photos and did not have high expectations. But he told me that Ford approved replacedment of the rear glass. He has ordered it and hopefully it will come in before or during the time the car is there to repaint the rear bumper on Monday.

 

I'm still left with washer nozzles that I feel are pointed too low. I can't clean the left side of the windshield at my eye level. My next mission is to document this with some video and work the available channels and see what can be done to improve it.

 

I have to admit, between my paint issues and this rear glass, I am very surprised and pleased with my dealership and Ford.

The nozzles should be adjustable. Usually a pin in the hole can move it, at least they used to be that way.

Technicians at dealership said they looked at it and nothing could be done. I'm not yet to the point I want to stick a pin in there myself and try to muck with it. Maybe after I exhaust all other options.

This got me thinking, I've used the wipers, they are great but the washer nozzles? I had to go in the garage and see what you are describing, mine work fine.

 

I also gave those three washer nozzles a good look, they are plastic.

They clip to the lower plastic windshield/wiper surround & cowl vent - I was able to slightly move one of them side to side but the elevation is fixed.

All three nozzles lead to plastic tubing under the cowl vent, to the passenger side engine bay along the fender and into the very weird washer reservoir.

The three spray nozzles look replaceable but you'd probably have to remove all the plastic cowling to get at the tubing, etc.

Looking in the Ford Catalog these Windshield Washer Nozzles are Part #17603 and cost $10.23 each.

 

I'd also look at the possibility that the entire the plastic cowling piece is installed wrong or warped, forcing the nozzles aim down too far - a bad assembly.

I reject the idea that 'nothing can be done', they just don't want to get involved.

 

Take a look at that windshield washer 'tank' sometime, it's buried in the fender with about a 1' curved fill neck - odd to say the least.

If they are fixed, then most likely it is the part they are attached to that is out of whack. It could be something as simple as a clip not fully locked in.

Most cars only have washer nozzles that don't elevate, but can be rotated side-to-side. Maybe the pressure is too low or you could be right about being installed wrong. I'd take the service advisor on a tour of other Fusions in the lot and test them out to see.
