Ace Report post Posted April 14, 2013 I'm interested in buying an Energi Titanium and have a short garage. Does any package include a front sensing system that would alert when you are too close to the garage wall? I have had various answers from different dealers ranging from this feature is not available to - it's available on the Parking Assist feature. The brochure indicates that it's on the Driver Assist package but that doesn't seem to be stated on-line. Thanks!
srogers Report post Posted April 14, 2013 Yes the park assist will change from a beep to a steady tone when there is about a foot between the wall and the front of your car.
fusionTX Report post Posted April 14, 2013 The front sensing is not available standalone, but comes with the park assist system. It's a way to make you buy the park assist. It works well.

Or you can just back into the garage and use the rear sensing system :) 1 corncobs reacted to this

murphy Report post Posted April 14, 2013 You can make one of these yourself out of a tennis ball and a piece of string. http://www.lowes.com/pd_150629-51-GPS-R_0__?productId=3736407&Ntt=parking+assist&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNtt%3Dparking%2Bassist&facetInfo= 1 corncobs reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted April 14, 2013 Tack a thick foam bumper pad on the wall. Whats interesting is the park assist in the Flex does not have the front sensors. I got used to them in the Fusion, so now I find myself not pulling up far enough in the garage.
Ace Report post Posted April 14, 2013 To the responders - thank you! I was getting such conflicting information. One dealer said I needed the adapive cruise control (which I didn't want). I like the Park Assist and am happy to buy that. I was considering the tennis ball and the string but it seemed a shame with all of the other technology. I had considered backing into the driveway but then you have the issue of charging the car....
fusionTX Report post Posted April 14, 2013 What the front sensing system won't do is prevent you from hitting the curb or scraping the bottom of your car on a curb in a parking area. But it is still nice to have for what it does.

I was hoping it would detect the curb if it's tall enough to scrape the car :(

neod192 Report post Posted April 14, 2013 I see you discovered this too :)Yeah, but I didn't scrape the bottom yet! Well, I did, once coming out of a steep driveway - didn't think I had to approach it at an angle... Good thing, can't see any scratches :-)
TX NRG Report post Posted April 15, 2013 There are simpler, cheaper ways to handle this situation. Park in the preferred position. Place a brick, pave stone or scrap piece of 4x4 up under the front of the front tire closest to the side wall of the garage on the side you park (if the brick is away from the middle of the garage, you're less apt to trip over it when the car is not parked there). Also, outline it on the floor with a piece of chalk as it might gradually move over time so you can reposition it. Then just pull into the garage each time and slow down until you gently roll up against the brick. Shift to neutral and roll back a smidge and put it in park.
