Fusion Pet Peeves

I know but I think it was the wrong choice. I actually considered removing them. I don't think the crease is pronounced enough to help me appreciate their intent.

Do it! I think it looks so much better without the gaudy lettering all over it. I removed all of the lettering from the car (including Fusion and SE).

Agreed. That looks very clean. Very sharp.

I have a Police Interceptor badge that I am thinking of putting on the trunk as a joke.

My seat heater turns on by itself. Is any one else having this issue? I really don't need it on in August! The service department can't duplicate the problem, but the heater came on again when I was driving home.

Your car looks great without the lettering!! How did you remove them? Any problem with adhesive residue? My car is ruby red and I wonder if the paint has faded enough to be noticeable if I remove the lettering.

The seat heater is on those damnable capacitive touch buttons on the center stack. All you have to do is get near it and the seat heat is on at the maximum setting.

Thanks for the compliment. I used a heat gun and dental floss to remove the letters, then Goo Gone for the adhesive residue. A hair dryer would also do the trick if you don't have a heat gun, since it takes low heat anyway. Using more heat is bad because it makes the adhesive goopier (that's a word now haha) and harder to remove.

I did this within several days of bringing the car home, so I'm not sure how yours would fare with the paint.

New to the Fusions and new to this forum. But I have to say that on our SE Hybrid, not having the rear tail lights' red outer perimeter illuminate is ridiculous! The rear styling of this car is very sleek and distinctive, in large part to the shape/styling of the tail lights. If they're not going to light, why have them in this configuration? I would gladly have paid a couple hundred more bucks (unbeknownst to me and built in to the base price) to have one guy on each side of the assembly line twisting the wires together. Or did Ford cheap out and not equip them with bulbs and/or wiring? Is this where Ford is saving on production costs? I'm bettin' the wires/bulbs are there, which makes it even more ludicrous that they are not hooked up and programmed. And obviously Ford is aware of the value of this feature/styling, because the Titaniums do light up. For a car that has so many other customizable features and conveniences, this seems to me to be a major styling/safety shortcoming. Take note, Ford! Hope you improve the 2017's.

No, this is where Ford maintains some distinction between the SE and the Titanium. If you could get everything on the SE that you could on the TI there would be no incentive to buy the Ti.

I believe the owners who have made the swap have found that the parts are different. The SE taillights do not have the necessary bulbs or wiring.

... and this is where Ford is drawing the line?! That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. It's not like you walk into the dealership shopping and they ask you "Would you like to consider the Titanium version so you can have lit tail lights?" Wanna give me an incentive to buy the Titanium? Lower the sticker price. So far I love this car, but this is the kind of stupid crap only American car companies seem to do. I say give me [functioning]tail lights (that are already there) and penalize me one less cupholder. Their approach at serving the consumer is a joke!

If you would compare the SE against the Ti you will find many differences.....not just the taillights.

Really? Thanks for enlightening me. But I know you get my point, don't you? Tail lights are not the type of feature that is an "option" or a luxury, or a place to delineate between the men and the boys in the trim lines. Ford thought nothing of including headlamps that illuminate automatically when the wipers go on, or wipers that automatically activate when they sense rain, capless fill tanks, windows that roll down while holding the keyfob unlock button, etc. etc. Nice little perks perhaps but certainly not necessary...or deal-breakers. Are you saying that you really can't see my point about the irony of having the tail lights as they are on the car, but 3/4 of their shape and form is completely non-functional? Or is this now just becoming "forum-banter" that we see so often? Don't reply. The questions are rhetorical. I found out what I needed to know and I'm frustrated by the lack of design logic. Smug comments pointing out the obvious "...are in no way productive. Why don't you...", blah blah blah.

I'm really not sure why you are making such an awful big deal about the taillights.

We really like to welcome new members and listen to the good and bad things about owning a FFH but personally I think your entrance has some people's eyes rolling.

Yes there difference are they strange and to a certain extent unexplainable yes but as for the TI taillights there is a reason why even as replacements are quite a bit more expensive than the SE version.

If that's you only complaint I would say Ford build an outstanding car.

Oh yeah and welcome to the FFH forum. :)

This is very true. I own of a FFH S and you will also find numerous differences between the S and the SE.

Lol, I replied in the other thread before reading this... +1 to everything you said.

I think I have to agree with klingcam. If the lenses appear the same, I think not lighting up part of it on a lower trim level is strange particularly for a basic safety feature like a tail light..

The SE tail lights are fully functional as is, designed to all relevant safety regulations I'm sure. I like the fact that tail lights are slightly different between the SE and Ti trims. I had an SE FFH for two years before upgrading to the FFET and never had an issue that I had diffferent lights on the SE. If people look at the specs and read the literature then they would know all the differences.

There are two ways to get the Ti tail lights, either by a Ti in the first place or go and get a set and swap them in. Others have done this.

I have tail lights on my FFH SE and they work fine. They alert the people behind me and they light up showing them that I am in front of them.

This thread should list all the differences between trim levels. You may find it interesting to see how else Ford differentiates the trim levels.

You can even keep going up the FoMoCo chain since the MKZ-h has features that the HyTi does not have.

1.5 years ownership now (total age of the car is just over 3 years).

My pet peeves which are mostly addressed in updated models (which I would upgrade to once my extended warranty is up):

- MyFordTouch is slower than my dad's 2009 Lexus (though the superior UI and feature set somewhat make up for lackluster performance). Yay QNX (which is Canadian!) for doing the superior Sync3

- Front passenger seat height isn't adjustable. I rented a 2015 gas model SE during a Florida vacation and discovered that it fixed this issue. I wonder if I could just replace the entire seat with one from a 2015+...

- No HID headlamp factory option (something the Mondeo in other countries has). I'm considering an aftermarket install in the near future.

- Touch buttons for climate control, seat heater, defogger, etc are annoying. The 2016+ models fixed this. I did get the touch buttons for the roof lights and moonroof controls replaced with hard buttons (from a 2013 Job 2) because the original module was peeling away, so I wonder if I could convince the dealer to replace this panel as well, lol

- Can't customize the navigation mode in the screen to the right of the speedometer as much as I'd like. I can only get it to show the next turn - I'd like to be able to switch back and forth between this view AND a list of upcoming turns.

- MyFordTouch screen is a fingerprint magnet. Sadly the protector I bought off Amazon also attracts lots of fingerprints though not as many as the screen itself.

- No cooled-seats option on SE trim

- Can't get the garage door opener without buying the moonroof as well. I bought a used car so I can't really complain about the inclusion of a moonroof, but if I buy a new car I certainly will do a factory order if I have to, just to avoid having it, which also means I need to do an aftermarket install for the garage door opener. At least Ford doesn't make the moonroof standard unlike many luxury car manufacturers.

- Indexing of new Android phones (which use the MTP storage protocol) is slow as hell. I store all my music on a 2nd gen iPod touch which indexes much faster and now permanently lives in the center console storage. Also, for some reason when the car indexes an Android phone, it detects the Google Maps navigation-sound files as music...

- When the front parking sensors go off, there's no graphic that shows which one was triggered (something many other cars have).

- Windshield wipers can be very squeaky. Sometimes I spray wiper fluid (even when there's already heavy rain) to lubricate them and shut them up.

So far after 3 years and 20,200 km the car has been rattle-free. It's starting its fourth year and I hope it'll remain rattle free. My previous Fusion (2008 SEL V6) was bought at 4 years old and rattled everywhere. I'm praying that I won't have to add rattles to the list of pet peeves as I love the car!
