Fusion Order Progress Spreadsheet

Recommended Posts

Window Sticker available as of today. The person that handles the dealership ordering says it's "in-plant" and invoiced. Which according to her, means it's being built. If that's true, it's less than a week early.

I think "sent to plant" means that now it's under control of their ordering-of-assembly process (rather than "being built" and actually being assembled at that time), which of course has a lot of variables. If there are no commodity constraints then the 7 days is probable as that seems like it's the normal timing... however remember not too long ago there was a delay on VINs that had a moonroof (for whatever reason), and then my Hybrid Titanium order was "sent to plant" around March 18th but not built until April 16th since there was a delay in any VINs with Ruby Red color... and then a few weeks later I think they had a week or two with nothing but Ruby Red retail orders, to catch up. So there are lots of variables, just keep putting the VIN into Etis once a day and hopefully things proceed normally and one day next week you'll see that it actually got built.

When does ETIS stop displaying "Ford Transit Connect?" I ordered on the 6th (a day or so before Sleddog); still no sticker and ETIS is showing "Ford Transit Connect." I believe he really did get his priority raised somehow. Edited by Aquineas

It will never stop saying this; since its a European site / DB the Fusion isn't known to the site and the "Ford Transit Connect" seems to be the default display.

Yep like the above note, it will always say Transit Connect, doesn't matter to me as all I cared about was finding the actual build date. On the issue of two buyers placing their orders about the same day, even if they were sent to plant on the same day there is no guarantee that they will be built even close to each other. Example - they make about 1,500 Fusions per day (give or take, could be 1,200 - 2,000 per day, but just use 1,500 for now), and even though the VIN sequence for corncobs car and my wife's Energi was only about 100 apart, his car was built a week sooner... so if the cars of two purchasers have the same color and options (e.g., where commodity constraints are not players) and go to plant at the same time, then chances seem good that they will build about the same time, but otherwise other factors can come into play, at least from what I can tell as an outsider watching the process.

One thing to note, it can take several days for the car to be built, so the date ETIS shows is the day it actually rolled off the line. I think I heard it is something like 24-48 hours to build a car. Mine rolled off on a Thursday, and was probably started on a Tuesday, which would be the day when the steel panels were first welded together and sent to paint. I dont know how long it takes to bake, and cool down before the car can be handled. All I do know is you just cant replicate a factory car finish afterwards, you can get close, but it never achieves that factory hardness in under 24 hours. It takes up to 60 days for a repaired paint to fully cure.

Got my sticker today. I guess the plant is working 7 days a week, and my car will be built on a Saturday.

Got an update yesterday. And it wasn't a good one. Estimated delivery date has been pushed back from 7/24 to 8/5. Kinda hard to understand why it will be waiting at the plant for 2 to 3 weeks before it is shipped. I had the discussion with the dealer about the delay and told them if it shows up with excess miles or the same condition as the last one, I will not accept it.

As side note, the FFH from the Fusion Delivery Disaster thread is now for sale again. The dealership has had 3 inquiries bout it and after explaining the reason for the mileage and the issues it has had, all 3 people said thanks but no thanks.

While this purchase has been a real pain, and the sales staff has been less then stellar, the person that does the ordering has been great and a wealth of information.

This seems odd - have they given you a VIN yet? From what I have read, the priority/allocations come into play to determine when an order will get a VIN and be sent for build, after the VIN gets built it then falls into a different process for shipping, where consolidation actions and prioritization by the shipper(s) may come into play, but I doubt the individual dealer has much at all say in that, unless there is a specific case where a car has already been built and is sitting there rather than planning for a delay before it it built. If you have the VIN, can you pull up the sticker online yet?

On the prior VIN that had the 3 no-takers, my guess is that it will end up being found by another dealer using an area search for a prospective customer, and will be DX'd to that other dealer and the customer will either not notice or not care.

Got the VIN last month. Sticker available on the 20th of this month, with a date of 6/19. As previously mentioned, the dealer says it has been invoiced and is in the plant being built. Original build week 6/24. I asked what in-plant means and was told it is being built and being built early. I asked about her about the date on the sticker vs. it being built 7 days later and was told that is normally correct. But according to the status she was seeing, it was actually on the line in the build process. Where on the line she could not tell.

With a sticker date of 6/19 the build date should be 6/26. Check ETIS on 6/27 to verify. The build date is the date the car is finished. It takes several days to build a car given painting and paint curing etc. It took two weeks for my car to get to PA, build date April 1, I picked it up April 15. I would think yours would take a similar amount of time so look for it around 7/10 or maybe a little later due to the July 4 holiday. That said they have to have enough cars going to the same destination to fill a railcar before it is going to start moving. My car had 6.8 miles on it when I picked it up. If your car gets randomly selected for quality testing it should have around 30 miles on it.

I don't think your salesperson has access to the tools needed, or knows how to use it. When my car was built in December, I happened to get an update of "in production - trim line" which tells me that checking latest status of the visibility report (as I got from that cyberdman reply) will indeed tell the status... of which I always watch the status of other Fusion builds on that forum and have seen "in production - body shop" several times too. So my guess is that your VIN is still in "sent to plant" or "scheduled-to-day" which may be a week after that date on the window sticker, or may be pushed back since that does happen (my first car was pushed back a week, second order was pushed back 4 weeks after being scheduled-to-day)... so all you can do is check Etis each day and also if you have not done so yet, post that VIN as a new cyberdman topic and get the real deal from Ford's central system, without the dealer spin.

Added - to the above post about taking several days for a build, I've posted the link to the below in a thread or two before, and the below video is interesting (goofy host guy aside), and in here the plant manager (who really looks like he would rather be anywhere than giving yet another tour) is asked how long it takes to completely build an F150, his reply was "about 18 hours" (around 33:12-33:20 if you don't care to watch it all)... now the Fusion assembly time may vary a little from that, but I wouldn't expect it to be that much different.

Hard to imagine a car being built from panels to paint to rolling off the line in 18 hours, only due to the painting factor. I know it doesn't take long for the car to be painted, but curing time for that hard finish?

It takes 48 hours to build a corvette though, saw that on how its made.

Jeff_h, it would appear you do not read previous posts. I say that because all the info you ask for was provided previously in this thread.

I think you keep missing it, but it is NOT a sales guy checking the status, but the person that does their ordering.

She is the person providing the info. While your input is appreciated, unless you can provide me with a definative status, I will put more stock in the info she is providing me then what you are pushing,

So, are you a ford employee that can provide me with a status? Or are you just guessing at what it should be. Pardon the attitude but I'm more than little tried of people that do not have access to the ford's internal information telling me the info I'm getting from the person that has access to ford's system is not correct.

So, provide me with a status or please keep what you "think" it should be, or who you think is more accurate, or what your opinion may be, to yourself.

Whoa, lighten up Francis... sorry no I'm not a Ford employee, just someone who watches the process and was hoping to discuss the issue to help find the answers to see a fellow forum member get his or her car, as I understand how anxious a person gets when he/she is about to get that long-awaited car, as I've been through it myself a few times. But again without being an employee and just a simple user on public forum, sorry that I caveat most statements not as facts but as guesses from watching the process only, as that's what they are.

Sorry I didn't scroll through the entire thread, that tends to happen when perusing a lot of threads and losing track I guess, sorry.

Good luck on getting your vehicle, I hope you see it soon.

@ sleddog

I don't have to defend jeff_h but he is somewhat right! He has been around for a while and as far as I know has order at least two cars so far.

As soon you have a "scheduled to week" date it's "in plant" but not in the actual build process yet. After this you should get a "scheduled to day" date.

The first indication that your car is going down the line would be "in production - body shop". Even then it doesn't mean your car is actually being put together; mine was in this state for about a week because of some undisclosed delay, my original "scheduled to day" was 03/02/13.

Here is what mine looked like; as I was told sometimes they don't even show the intermediate steps like "trim line" as you can see it goes straight from "body shop" to "produced"

38018F58-73BE-47D0-993C-C43022DC18DA-633

I can understand your frustration we have all been there and count yourself lucky that you actually have a person at the dealer providing you with info from the visibility program. You can find real horror stories about dealer customer updates throughout the order process.

Take care and may your car come sooner than later.

Corncobs, thanks for your input. I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'll try to make it short. My aploigizes the Mods.

This forum just like many others when it comes to self styled experts on a subject. Anyone can wing it and pass on info that is meaningless and inaccurate. Ordering a couple of cars and being around awhile does not give someone "status". If that was the case my malamute would have status as a dog food expert because she eats it every day and has been around for 7 years.

The point is this. I posted an update and ended up getting a input that was given without reading posts or comprehending the info in those posts by someone with no ability to access the build tracking system. It would appear, even though he has no access to the system, he knows more about how to operate and interrupt it then the person providing me updates.

Jeff_h, my name is not Francis. And there is nothing to lighten up about there Charlie. Your input was taken as information from someone has no idea of the current status of any vehicle in the build process..

No app sorry that would be nice!

It's just a screen shot from the email I received from my sales guy. Each sales person should be able to run the vehicle visibility report which returns the current status and history of an order which is what I received every time there was an update.

It should only take them a couple minutes to pull up the tracking including the rail transit. The only thing they cant get you is once it reaches the local rail yard, from there it becomes a waiting game. Once the car is off the rail car, it must be loaded and shipped within 48 hours, so the longest delay will be how many cars are being offloaded and how many rail cars are in the line.

So in summary, we know that once it begins production, the dealer can only get updates of the car beginning production, when it is produced, and once it is in transit as Ford only updates specific points of the progress, not a daily running update.
