Wheel Engineering

Goodmorning..

 

I have the 2013 FFH Ti on order....Im not really crazy about the wheels.....can anyone tell me the specific engineering that went into them so I can appreciate them more.......otherwise they may have to go....

We don't have a choice of ugly on the HyTi either. It's just the one wheel, ugh.

Hate to say it, but I'm kind of digging the HyTi wheel when it's spinning. Still don't like it when it's not.

Those are not much different than the 17's on my 10 Hybrid!

I like the base wheels on the SE, I think those look better than the upgraded wheels available for the SE or the Titanium

I like them too. Not so much because of the looks of the actual wheel, but because it draws attention away from the tires, where the other wheels tend to show the tire more, in my opinion anyways. This is good for me because it's harder for me to keep my tires looking clean.

Here are the wheels on the 10, I thought they looked similar, but guess not, the spokes are fatter.

so no one has any idea if there is any special engineering to the wheel?? Some Kia salesman told their Hybrid wheel was designed to maximize fuel econ. ( maybe lower wind resistance?)

Sure, the less air that travels through the wheel, but better the fuel economy is. The lighter the wheel, the higher the MPG. These factors would only have a slight noticeable effect at high speeds. I'm sure you noticed, the standard hybrid wheels have a lot of spokes, so it doesn't allow a lot of air to travel through them.

 

Disclaimer: I'm not a wheel designer, this is mostly common sense/my own observations/info from my dealer :)

When you think about it, the wheel is sideways to the airflow, so unless the spokes act like fan blades, air flow is minimal, Mass however is the key. The lighter the better. Diameter plays a roll too, however, if you compare the 17" wheels to the 18 and 19 wheels, the outside diameters are virtually the same, but the wheel mass is higher.
