What did you drive before getting your FFH?

I can believe it. My parents had a 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan that needed 3 new transmissions. The first 2 were replaced under warranty (since they bought the 100,000 mile extended warranty) and then the fourth they paid to put a rebuilt tranny in. My parents put about 200,000 miles on that van and the tranny that lasted the longest was the rebuilt one. The others were rubbish.

They were so easy to spot, you just had to listen for then look for the vehicle making the whiney sound

My last two cars have been Honda's. I just replaced a 2000 Honda Accord Coupe V6. Absolutely loved that car. It drives really well and I was very pleased with it . However, it started having problems. I looked at Honda's, and I even drove the 2012 Honda Accord for a week while my car was being serviced. I was not impressed. It did not handle as well as my 2000 Accord. I did not even look at the Pruis cause I think they are so ugly. I looked at and drove the Hyuandi Genesis, Sonata, and Azera. Was very interested in the Genesis Coupe but it did get good gas milage. Plus, I thought I'd get alot of tickets if I bought it. Lol.

A few years ago I had looked at buying the Ford Fusion Hybrid but I didn't because it had no trunk. Now with the new design and look, I really became interested in it. I looked and drove the Energi and would of boughten it, except for the postage stamp size Trunk.

So I bought the FFH instead. I waited 4 months for it being ordered by the dealer from the factory. So far, I like it alot. I am hopeful my MPG will go up but considering I have only had the car a week. So far I am getting 40.7 MPG.

2000 Z28 Camaro

2000 Jeep Wrangler

Traded the Camaro for a 2005 Ford ranger pickup 4x4 because we needed a truck.

Traded the wrangler for a 2003 Jeep Liberty for the extra space & full time 4x4.

When gas started going crazy, we sold the Liberty, & bought a brand new, very hard to find 2007 Prius pkg 6.

6 years & 80,000 miles later we traded the Prius for our 2013 FFH Titainum, Ice Storm. Picked it up 3 weeks ago.

Considered another Prius, the V model, but it's not a very visually appealing car, & here in Oregon, they are everywhere. The FFH is a hot looking car for a 4 door sedan. Considered the Toyota Avalon, but over priced in my book. Also the Camry, but MPG was too low. Would have bought the FFH Energi but needed the trunk space. We really wanted the Tesla but that was just way too much money.

Our FFH is a great car. We knew that with the Ethanol in the gas here in Oregon, we would never see 47mpg, but we are averaging 37. We got 40-43 with the Prius, so we are happy.

We also have 2 Harley's that average 40-45 mpg and we ride them quite a bit.

I wont list our car history but I will list what our new 2013 FFH replaced.

 

The 2013 FFH replaced my wife's 2002 Chevy Impala. The Impala was a great car. It had the 3.8 engine and she managed 32 mpg on the highway, but only 20ish in town. She wanted a hybrid, but I stated that it had to be a good looking and fun to drive hybrid, unlike the Prius. We have two friends with Prius' and they love them.

 

We looked at a number of hybrids and settled on the Fusion and glad we did.

 

It is taking my wife some time to learn how to drive a hybrid as she is used to the get in and go driving from the Imp and her '69 Mustang. It has only been fueled up 3 times and her mpgs have been 38.2, 38.3 and 43.1 and the current tank is showing 45.1 mpg. She is getting the hang of it and really enjoys the car. Her only complaint is that the electronics are confusing.

My first car was a 1998 Chevy Cavalier, then I bought a 2005 Honda Civic. Recently just bought a 2013 FFH after a lot of bouncing around on which car I wanted. Started with looking at the Mazda Cx5, Subaru Forester, Subaru Impreza, Kia Optima. I hadn't even considered the Ford until my boyfriend suggested I check it out.

2014 FFH S (ordered, receiving in 2-3 weeks)

 

Other cars I considered included the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Mazda 6 Diesel (apparently not coming to US until late spring anyway), but chose the FFH. The FFH will be my first hybrid and a lot nicer than my previous cars - I just finished grad school and started working ~16 months ago.

Did you carry oil on board? I did. I think the car took as much oil as it did gas. I had a Vega and a friend had a Pinto. Real classics :-O

My first Vega you needed a 55 gallon drum strapped to the roof to go around the block, but the second one, that I paid a whopping $50 for didnt burn a drop. I had pulled the head, and put teflon seals on all the valves and the block has steel sleeves. 2 speed power glide and 90 MPH is what that little bugger could do. Sold it for $500.

I recently had a 2004 Honda CRV. As I commute ~120 miles per day which leads to ~600 miles per week, I noticed that I was burning ~$500 in gas monthly. That's a car payment, folks. Since I have a family, I looked for family-friendly cars that are great in gas mileage and came up with this list:

 

* FFH (obviously)

* FFH Energi (too expensive and trunk is too small)

* Volkswagen Passat TDI

* Honda Accord Plugin (I don't like the split screen layout)

* Honda Accord Hybrid (soon to be released; I don't like the split screen layout)

* BMW 328d (soon to be released)

Tossing out the obvious from above, I focused on the Passat, the FFH, and the new 328d.

IMHO, the Passat is a great car. For my case, it would work very well. Unfortunately, it's technical features are severely underwhelming. In addition, all the reviews view the car as under-powered. While I could probably deal with one or the other, I'm not about to choose a car with both deficiencies... So the Passat wasn't for me.

Of all the cars, the new BMW 328d was the one that actually peaked my interest the most... solely because of the brand and cache. When I started digging, I started to realize that the 328d wasn't in direct competition with the FFH; BMW is going after the Passat. As such, they stuck a smaller engine in their most popular car and promoting the hell out of it as a premium! Sure it can achieve great highway gas mileage... but guess what? When combined with city driving, it performs about the same as the Passat... but it's more expensive! Is cache worth a $10k premium for less performance? I don't think so. We'll see if anyone else agrees with me.

So I just took delivery of the FFH-SE and I love it. Actually, I'm going to post this then get up and drive it! Laters!

OK, I'm game! My very first car which I bought in 1969 for $1300 was a 1965 Chevy Impala SS 327 hardtop. Next came a 1968 Dodge A108 van with which I helped to start the SoCal (South Bay) van craze of 1970 - customized in my garage and Cragar wheels. That was traded to my brother in 1971 for his 1964 Buick Riviera. I had the Riv when I reported to Fort Carson, CO in early 1972. Had to sell it there cuz my salary as a Private was $144.40 before taxes. Couldn't afford the gas. Picked up a 1968 VW bug. Left for my first tour in Germany in Feb of '73 where I bought a 1965 Kharmann Ghia. Moved back to the US in spring 1975 when I bought my very first New car for $2300, a 1975 Mercury Capri. It had problems and got traded for a '74 Super Beetle in '76. Went back to Germany in '77 and bought a (German) Ford Escort station wagon. Came back to the States in' 80 and picked up a 1977 Pinto station wagon for the wife. (I was in flight school). Went back to Germany in 1981 after flight school and bought a 1978 (German) Ford Taunus sedan. In '84, that got traded for a (German spec) BMW 320i (w/2300 km on it) that only cost me $3800 due to a nice dollar to Deutsche Mark exchange rate. Loved that car! Ordered a brand new 1983 Chevy Cavalier station wagon for the wife through the PX - delivered in Germany. 1986 went to Panama and drove a 1982 Trans Am while there. 1989 went to Hawaii, bought a new 1989 4Runner (for $18500) in CA on the way. Put it on a boat for $600 to Honolulu. In HI, bought a 1985 Mazda 626 to drive to work. Left Hawaii 1992 brought the Mazda & 4Runner with to Vegas. Mazda went to step-son and I bought a 1995 Dodge Stratus (POS). Traded for 1995 Contour in '96. Lost the 4Runner to divorce in 1998. Late '98 traded the Contour for 1999 Explorer Sport. Wanted 4x4 to haul jet skis, so traded for 2002 Explorer XLS in late '01. Traded for 2003 Expedition XLT 4x4 in early 2004. Traded for 2007 F150 XLT 4x4 Dec '07. 2009 bought a (used) 2007 Fusion SEL (w/23K miles) to drive to work (gas went crazy). Traded for a (Ford Certified) 2012 Fusion SEL (w/8K miles) with every option in Aug 2012. Traded '07 F150 for 2013 F150 XLT 4x2 to catch up with technology in Mar '13. On July3, 2014, traded the '12 Fusion for my Ruby Red FFH and lovin' it!.
