Yellow Wrench, Red Triangle, Engine Surgeing

Recommended Posts

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, 29500 Mi approx

Just this month had the two wrenches light up, throttle body issues and or gas cap (according to Book) cleared ran for 3 weeks no other problem till 9Mar13 today. (rainy) In Texas on I-130 going north from San Antoino 80mph posted speed, lights came on, with the two wrenches, then the red triangle came on, car bucked an died a quick death, Glad my wife and I are not dead from the rearend being hit by a truck going 80+ when the car slowed to a stop quickly. Very dangerous, noted the up and down arrow flashed, on the hybrid battery, hybrid battery gage went down quickly, fliped on the drawing of the power flow, it was indicating flow to trans from electric engine and gas engine when running down the road at 65mph.. Finaly got home alive, called Ford Service here in town, and delivered to them Light came on on way to dealer, and was on when I left the car with them, the gentlemen in the service bay drop off was not interested in seeing the trouble indicators.

. Also had car run a Vehicle Health Report and e-mail me the results; Noted Urgent Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power; "some information could not be sent from your sync, due to current conditions and data volume... Will update when corrected..

Looks like a lot of people are having simular problems, anyone else having the same problems with a trouble code listed.. ??

Sorry about your encounter and hope it gets resolved quickly, however what is the basis for the phrase "looks like a lot of people are having similar problems" noted above?

He's thinking the high data volume indicates a lot of cars trying to call home. I doubt it.

That's what I wondered... I have seen some users (such as yourself) make their first post as one where a problem is encountered, and so the forum tends to get several threads like this and may make a casual observer think that the place is littered with them and the car is having widespread issues of X, Y, Z when in fact it's more likely an over-representation of those type users on the forum and the 'silent majority' of happy users are out there but not posting in here, so the balance may look skewed, that's all.

Please keep us posted on the cause and resolution of the problem, it's good info for newcomers who start googling for info and wind up here, thanks.

I have been following all the FFH forums and threads since 9/09 and it is not common and by my recollection this is one of only a few such reports. Edmunds long term test had one due to a 12 vdc battery.

Update, picked up vehicle after 2 days with Ford .. Printout quote "Tested found no hard fault code in the system road tested for 30 mile and couldnt duplicate customer concern found not TBS or SSM on customer concern". Service rep, stated that they did RE-Flash the T control module.. hoped that would clear the problem.. So far so good drove road190 Killeen to Cove, 75mph about 10 mile no problems (that is the posted speed). Hopefully, the reflash has corrected the problem. Had the vehicle serviced while there, Battery marked as Checked and OK.. Service Advisor stated that even though the car had the wrench and red triangle come on and shut the vehicle down several times on the way back from San Antonio no fault codes were recorded.. As I stated, hope it never happens again, and the reflash takes care of it. If it does occure again will try and run Vehicle Health Report, while the Triangle light is on, before turning off key and restarting

Thanks for the update. Do keep us informed. t is disconcerting when something like this happens. Imagine being in the middle of a long road trip with family and pets loaded up and your car shuts down. Would not be pleasant. That's why reliability is really the most important feature of any car.

Today, Mar 19,2013 Update " Urgent HEV Hazard" came on the way back home at 75 mph on 190 between Belton and KIlleen. Requested vehicle health report from phone screen, and printed to take with me to Ford Dealer. Happened again running 65, and then again going 30 to 35 in town, and again on way to dealer (four times). Hope they can find the problem. No wrench lights came on this time, just a stutter then Urgent HEV Hazard " triangle" came on and shut down engine. Will update when I get it back.
