djminfll Report post Posted March 6, 2013 When I first got my '13 FFH, I obsessed over mpg. I have a 37 mile commute to work each day, and as much as I wanted to speed up, I stayed in the right lane with Cruise Control locked in at 62mph. I consistently achieved 43-44mpg. I left a little late this morning, and to avoid being late, I let myself go 70mph, figuring my mpg would suffer, but at least I would get to work on time. Imagine my surprise when I pulled into the parking lot at work and shut off the engine, and I had scored 45.5mpg! I am using my fuelly.com history in my signature, and over the last 3 fill-ups, my overall score has raised from 38.7 to 39.6 up to an even 40mpg. Surprisingly, the trips that seem to bring the mileage down are the short around-town trips, which I thought would be bringing the mileage UP. Oh well, from now on, 70mph it is! 3 fusionTX, neod192 and acdii reacted to this
NewHiTi21 Report post Posted March 6, 2013 That is really good news. I haven't got my car yet but I can't drive 55. Sounds like I won't have to slow down much and can still expect good mileage.
steveo358 Report post Posted March 6, 2013 The more posts I read, the more it tells me that these cars just need to be driven with common sense, and not babied, worrying about ICE kicking in. 1 B25Nut reacted to this
djminfll Report post Posted March 6, 2013 You're going to love it! You know that each time you cut the engine, you get a readout of your mpg for the last trip, whether it was 1 mile or 100 miles? The first time you do a 10 mile trip around town and you hit the 50's, you'll be so excited!
B25Nut Report post Posted March 6, 2013 I refuse to drive below the speed limit. The few times I have kept it at 60-62 mph, I did get better mileage. I wish Ford would change the EV threshold to 65 mph. It may cost them a point or two in the EPA rating, but I think the real world would see higher MPG. Why did Ford even put a cap on ev mode. The toyotas cant get to 62 in ev only but the ev always assists at any speed. Ford chose 62mph for a reason. Ill leave it at that. terryb Report post Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) Headed home tomorrow from Tampa area and anticipating head winds. I'm going to run with traffic and see how it behaves. Todays run at speed limit was a constant slow loss of mileage about 0.1 mpg/hr. Was pushing north on 75 and west at 70 mph on I10. Did see the ICE showing 40 to 50 mpg when not charging, but net was slight loss. Average at 38.3. Edited March 8, 2013 by terryb
