Break in period, according to Ford

I had a moment yesterday where I wanted to reach through the phone and strangle the person on the other end.

 

First wait 3000 miles for break in, then it was 6000 miles. now its 10,000 miles! OK, so when I reach 10,000 miles and it still does poorly, are you going to say, oh it takes 15,000 miles for breakin. eh, OK,

 

Good place for a facepalm!

My 2010 FFH steady speed mpg has improved about 1 mpg from new to 50,000 miles and that's within experimental error. There is little in modern cars especially hybrids to "break-in". The rings are already seated. The bearings are perfect when new. I would think any break-in would take hours, not months or years. The new hybrid driver, however, has a BIG "break-in" period.

IMO with 15K mi on my CMAX there is a break in period probably 5-15k mi. but it's only 1-2mpg. I think they figure buy the time summer gets here you will gain 4-8mpg and it would be a problem anymore.

 

I noticed on ebay there are cheap laptop diagnostic software for sale but will have to check to see if they're useful tomorrow.

Break-in is total bs and just a stall tactic from car manufacturers. These engines dont just get assembled and put in cars and hauled to dealers. Their run and test before they even get seated in the chassis.

Most everyone has seen an improvement with several thousand miles on their cars.
