Newer Fusions getting better mileage?

Recommended Posts

My only suggestion on this is stay away from those built the last week of Oct, the rest seem to be OK. Only a handfull of owners have bad gas mileage and of those, it seems only 3 are actually having real issues, the rest are all short trip drivers. Of those 3, only one has had a real issue with a check engine light that relates to poor FE.

The one I'm looking at has a Feb built date.

Mine's Feb 13. Drives and functions better than anticipated!

My Built date was Dec 20, 2012, getting about 43 mph, warmer weather betting better mpg here in Texas, yesterday driving from Ft. Worth, got 49 mpg on 25 miles trip, was on EV at 64 mph when battery charge was about 2/3, anyone ever see this?????? I thought

the max mph for EV was 62 mph, very happy with it except for crackling noise from front wheels and wrong shifter installed at factory, waiting to get shifter replaced and waiting for Ford to come up with fix for front noise crackling issue..... :) see forum topics for mentioned issues..

Speedo is not accurate in these, so it may look like you were doing 64 in EV, but you probably were doing 62 actual. If you have a portable GPS nav, like a garmin or tomtom, you can verify your speed, of it you have a smart phone there is an app called Speedbox that you can use. I found the speedo to vary by up to 3 MPH depending on your speed.

My speedo is accurate, as it's the same as the speed my gps radar detector enabled shows. I see EV engaging at 64 as well, especially if I'm going downhill a little.

I've seen 64 mph on EV many time on what appeared to be a level road, but I've learned that these times have to be during a slight down slope. Perfectly level stretches of road within 100 miles of where I live are very rare. The FFH's EV mode is a very sensitive instrument that lets you know whether you're level or not.

If you have a ScanGauge or something similar, you'll see that the car's computer is reporting anywhere from 1 to 2 MPH lower than what appears on the dash. The dash and the cruise control appear to be in sync, but don't appear to be the same as the car's computer; at least what's coming out of the OBDII port. So you can almost always get it to go into EV mode at 63 and sometimes at 64 MPH.

Thats the same thing I found too. The faster you go the greater the variance too.
