ny2oc1996 Report post Posted February 27, 2013 In the 2013 model year Consumer Reports has picked the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid as the second best car in the world regardless of price or category according to an article in USA Today Money 2B. This comes even after Consumer Reports criticized the FFH for not meeting the EPA mileage numbers. But the news is not really a contradiction because after CR criticized the FFH EPA numbers and Ford stated that “We stand by our numbers”, CR quickly released a statement saying that the 2013 FFH still has the best mpg numbers we ever tested in a mid-sized sedan and has other great attributes as well. The FFH was edged out by the redesigned Honda Accord but bested the third place BMW 328i, Mercedes E350 and fifth place Mercedes C250. The Fusion Hybrid wasn’t just picked over the gas Fusion because of superior mpg numbers but other differences such as noise level, value etc. enters into the overall score. Although I’m no great fan of CR, I will admit they are fiercely independent because they accept no money from advertisers or industry. So they say the 2013 FFH is the second best car in the world at any price? Hey, I can live with that. 2 B25Nut and coach81 reacted to this
B25Nut Report post Posted February 27, 2013 Ny2Oc, this is great news. I'm posting this over at Toyota Nation since the attacks on the FFH over there were mainly based on the CR reports. I think we all knew this was true, but didn't expect it to be offically verified. 1 coach81 reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted February 27, 2013 Honda? eesh, I didnt think they were that good. Must have been the MPG penalty that did it. 1 coach81 reacted to this
B25Nut Report post Posted February 28, 2013 I'm begining to suspect that USA Today put together some facts and made the wrong conclusion. I can't find any other source, even CR, that lists the best car regardless of category. The fact that the top five doesn't include a Lexus makes it very suspicious. Lexus is CR's top ranked brand. 1 coach81 reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted February 28, 2013 Lexus schmexus. I drove an RX400H once.....once. Noisy as all get out, handled nice, but that dang engine was LOUD. Would rather have a Hyundai over a Lexus. :)

I'm going to have to agree. In fact the Fusion Hybrid doesn't even get a "recommended" check mark next to it like a lot of the cars on there do. Details were announced today at a meeting of the Washington Automotive Press Association in Washington, D.C.
Riggo Report post Posted February 28, 2013 The Top Picks are part of CR's annual April auto issue, perhaps the most-influential annual auto report card. Details were announced today at a meeting of the Washington Automotive Press Association in Washington, D.C. I still don't see the Fusion Hybrid listed anywhere among the top picks on Consumer Reports website, and I see the 2013 Top Picks article and video. The fusion isn't even ranked as a "recommended" vehicle by CR. 1 coach81 reacted to this
ny2oc1996 Report post Posted February 28, 2013 Seems to be a little difficult discovering the CR article. Here is the link: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2013/02/26/consumer-reports-honda-ford-toyota-accord-fusion/1947823/ Scroll down about half way to the paragraph labeled: Fusion Emerges. TX NRG Report post Posted February 28, 2013 Would rather have a Hyundai over a Lexus. :) Watch out for the Hyundai's out of control acceleration! It can really kill your MPG at 120 MPH (not to mention occupants and anyone in your path). 1 coach81 reacted to this

Anyway... I see it in the USA today article, but when I look up the rankings on CR it doesn't say anything of the sort and doesn't even have a "recommended" rating for the Fusion. Interesting... It seems like something fishy with the USA article. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Code_Warrior Report post Posted March 1, 2013 AAA likes Fusion. In the latest issue of Highroads, the magazine of AAA, they state that 'The all-new Fusion is easily the best car Ford has ever built'. They rate it as a 'top model' for 2013.

ny2oc1996 Report post Posted March 1, 2013 Thanks rjent. Compiling 47 reviews and picking Fusion #1 out of a field of 18 is a pretty powerful endorsement.
Code_Warrior Report post Posted March 2, 2013 Consumer Reports April 2013 issue, page 5. 'We've tested more than 80 vehicles in the past 12 months, and here are the models that cruised to a top score.....It's notable that two midsized sedans earned the highest tallies, outpacing several luxury cars. Honda Accord is number one in list of five with 90 points. Ford Fusion Hybrid is number two with 87 points. BMW 328i number three with 86 points followed by two Mercedes with 86 and 85 points. 1 B25Nut reacted to this
B25Nut Report post Posted March 2, 2013 CW, thank you for tracking this down. It is great news for Ford, and most of us here would probably agree that it would be valid even if it included all vehicles. Since this may be reported by some outlets without the "in the past 12 months" qualifier, however, we still have to remember it is a partial truth that doesn't reveal the whole picture (like in politics and climate change). The TCH owners aren't too happy about it since the 2012 TCH got a 93 score from CR.
