white platinum paint

Does anyone have the white platinum paint? It looks like it costs extra. Is it worth the extra cost?

It costs more because of the extra steps needed to lay the paint. It's a 3 step process, same for Ruby Red. Base coat is laid, then the pearl coat, followed by the clear coat. The other colors are base coat/clear coat. The middle step slow production which is why the additional cost.

 

Is it worth it? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you like the color, then yes, if you dont, well then no. I like the Ruby Red color, but prefer blue. IOW I wont pay extra for it when there is another color I like just as much.

 

One thing to consider when you do get these paints, repairs will also cost more, and unless the painter is really good, and most aren't, any repair panel will stand out. The blend has to be perfect, or the pearl will lay incorrectly and reflect light the wrong way. The Grand Marquis in my Sig uses a black pearl base coat, and there is one very small section where the film is either thicker or thinner than the rest and I can see it, most people wont because of where it is, but I know, and it catches my eye every time.

I have it and I like it. I think it makes a good looking car look that much better.

It's beautiful, but ultimately I decided against it because I thought the extra $500 could be put to better use getting all the tech gadgets.

I also took into account that touchups would be expensive, and god knows, I always need touchups.

The White Platinum is well worth it. Even from a distance, in the sunshine it glistens like a pearl jewel, and it looks better the closer you get. Personally, I think it accentuates the best lines of the Fusion. The best feature is that I haven't had to wash my FFH in over a month and it looks showroom fresh (unless you really look close in some areas). The option is something you'll enjoy every time you see your car. Ruby Red would be my next choice, but you still have to pay extra.

That is a plus for the lighter colors. Funny though even with a coat of salt on my Blue Fusion, it still sparkles. It wont once it dries though.

Got my Oxford White and it was parked right next to a white platinum one and i liked the oxford way better. Brighter and more noticeable.

To each their own. I like most of the colors - but in a silver car now so time for a change and not crazy about the ginger ale.

I thought the ice blue one was the worst, it was just too hybridy, bu the rest of the colors are al l prdtty nice. Except id prefer a race red over that ruby one.

The beauty of the white platinum is the sparkle that is reflected when light is shining off it. The best effects are at night or in bright sun. The overall effect is that it adds a richer look to the vehicle. It really is a matter of taste. No wrong choices when it comes to what you find attractive. The $495.00 extra price is based on the necessary three stage process mentioned above.

 

The only other optional paint is the ruby red. This is an attempt to give the finish a “candy apple” look. Candy apple red has been popular for decades because of the color depth in the paint finish. Candy apple is a three stage paint process with a gold base coat followed by a red base coat and finished with a clear coat. The ruby red carries a $395.00 extra price but is not a three stage paint. It is a two stage paint that attempts to mimic candy apple by tinting the clear coat. It is definitely successful in adding depth to the paint but not to the degree of a three stage candy apple. So the $395.00 upcharge appears to me to be excessive however, if I was going red, I wouldn’t hesitate paying that for a minute.

 

The truth is that these paint up charges are a steal when you compare them to the up charges during a whole vehicle repaint. Further, no repaint will ever be as durable as factory paint as they electrically charge the paint and metal for best adhesion , bake the finish under optimal conditions etc.

You sound well informed in the paint process.

I chose the Platinum White from the few choices when ordered in October '12. It was a bargain considering the work it requires.

I then had it 'sealed' before delivery, which I don't regret. Road grime, bugs and dirt just slide off with a water only cleaning.

To me, it does add that extra depth, especially with the 18' wheels - we have had many, many compliments on the cars overall 'rich' look.

Even from my sister-in-law who owns a Prius V, who finds it hard to like anything but her own choices.

As you say, the colors are individual choices. I am happy with mine.

I admit, touch-up and chip repair may be difficult, but I'm well acquainted with a good body shop.

I went with the Ruby Red and I get many compliments on the colour. I don't see many "red" cars on the road these days, so I wanted something that will stand out. I love the shine of the Ruby Red it just sparkles!!!

If you look at two Fusions side by side, one Oxford White and the other White Platinum, on a cloudy day some will think the extra cost of the latter isn't worth it. But in the sunshine and under bright lights, it's a different story.

I chose the Oxford White over the White Platinum a) because of the cost and b) when the two colors are near each other I thought the Oxford looked "whiter" or more of a bluish white while the Platinum looked more like a yellowis white. If your old enough you may remember a laundry product called "bluing" that was added to whites to make them look whiter. Same issue. But , then again, I guess I just gave away that I'm old.

Last Sunday was the first offical complete wash of my FFH after four months. I just hosed it and wiped it dry with towels. Up to now, I would just wipe it down if I'd driven it in the rain, and about once a week I'd take a damp towel to the rear of the car and occassionally the windows. This is the advantage of white paint. No one ever thought my car looked dirty.

Well, I took the wife to look at the white platinum. she said it looks like it has a pink hue to it. I also showed her that the SE hybrid with leather can't come with the appearance package. She said you need the spoiler! I told her that I would need to get the Ti so I can get leather with the spoiler. She said go for it. To top it off, I ended up ordering the dark gray, in a Ti!

I would think very hard before paying extra for paint because it adds no value to the car. Think about it, go to edmunds or wherever used car evaluations are done, rarely if ever does it ask if you puchased the optional paint. And like someone else mentioned, that money is probably better spend on another option or ultimately saving you $500 off the car if you choose a no "extra cost" color.

Its a personal thing with the color, If you like it, its worth it, if you dont, then its a waste. They only cost more because of the extra steps needed to make them look like they do, and they DO look nice.
