I never saw it advertised a leather seating surfaces. Where did you see this.

it is advertised as "leather-trimmed" seats, whatever that means.

It has the same leather wrapped shift knob as mine since the dealer put the correct one in mine.

Hermans, thanks for editing your post. I thought you were saying none of the surfaces are vinyl. They did a really nice job with this as I have a pretty good eye and can't really see a difference in the grain from one section to the next. All I can say is that I have one more reason to be impressed!

Just to clarify, only the part you butt kisses, and your back touches is real leather, the rest is pleather. Same goes in the MKZ. The difference is the leather in the MKZ is of a much higher quality. Reason is, he pleather forms easier around those curves, and is more durable to squashing than leather is. If the sides were made from real leather, they would eventually crack and split over time. Not sure if the back of the seat and pocket are real leather though.

Trina is on FB saying she checked and the seats are all leather. Really they are not. The seat backs, side panels, arm rests (front and rear) and the "leather wrapped" shift knob are pleather. Pleather is a slang term for plastic leather. Yes they do a good job of making it all match.

I saw this explanation on the meaning of leather-trimmed in a prius chat. Makes sense to me.

 

The "seating surfaces" are leather. That's the part of the seat back and seat bottom that you actually sit on.

The side bolsters and behind the seat back are vinyl.

To do a quick check, press down with your thumb on a surface. If it creases, it's leather. If it doesn't, it's vinyl.

Your nose can tell too, leather always has a smell where vinyl doesn't.

I have horses, which means working with leather a lot. After a while your nose can pick out the differences in materials whether its real leather or Pleather. I can get a bridle right off the store rack and it will be so stiff that you can hold it straight up, and after about an hour of conditioning, have it soft and supple, like the leather used in luxury cars.

 

Can't do that with the leather seats though, it will remove the finish completely off the seats.

You dont have to smell the seat, just the back portion, and the side. Usually the head rest has leather on the front and back, and the sides are pleather.

I dont like the look on those seats. I prefer the SE leather. Also I noticed this titanium has those crappy Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires! The local dealers SE has Michelins. Can anyone explain?

The 18" wheels have Goodyear and the SE with 17" wheels have the Michelin. Some have Continental. Dealers have contracts with different manufactures to supply tires.

Hey now, watch it, those Goodyears you called crappy happen to be pretty darn good tires! They arent impacting the MPG, and they have excellent snow and wet traction, unlike the Michelins. You may get a mile better with the michelins, but the handling and traction from the goodyears is well worth it.
