mokee Report post Posted February 24, 2013 This newbie just returned from a 3,800 mile trip in a brand new 2013 FFH SE. Its a comfortable fit for a 270#, 6'2" driver although getting in and out isn't as easy as our other Ford. The 12 way driver seat is great for stretching both legs straight out on Cruise. I didn't find it tiring to drive at all. Mileage approached the number on the sticker. I did notice it improved when we got into warm weather, but began losing leaves when the temps went below freezing on the return trip even though my driving style never changed. A couple of "hiccups" occured during the trip. Pulling into an unlit parking lot in a rain storm I caught the edge of a curb and put a small cut in the sidewall of the front driver side tire. The fix for this was a 30 mile tow to a Ford dealer, and thankfully they had a replacement tire. My wife is now after me to buy a spare tire. Another problem occured with Synch crapping out. Re-seating the MMC card brought it back. Finally, for some reason we had to re-set the mirrors and driver seat profiles. Oddly, the RH mirror went to the up detent and the LH went to the down detent. So far, I like the car. I'm looking forward to being active in the forum. I've picked up something useeful from every topic read. You guys are a gold mine of info. Thanks. mokee Report post Posted February 25, 2013 Congrats on your new car! What is your driving style that you achieved close to Sticker on a 3,800 mile trip.Welcome to the forum!I tow boat trailers on long trips and experienced that no one likes to follow the trailer regardless how fast I drive. To save on gas and the equipment I rarely drive faster than 60 mph. Its a lot less tense to drive like this and the same vehicles pass me multiple times during the day anyway. I read in the FFH owners manual that over 63 mph you stay in ICE mode. I reason that the electric motor augments the gas engine to acheive better mileage than a straight gasser. On the highway I set the cruise on 62 mph so it would also use EV and just sat back and relaxed. Also, stopping a trailer is better done by planning ahead and using the motor to brake. Alot of the surface roads in FL have 45 mph limits and that speed seems to be the sweet spot for alot of Ford drive trains. Driving on the Interstate doing 62 mph when most traffic whizzes by doing 75 mph may not be for everyone, When I checked the trip trip odometer (lieometer) end reading it was 3806.0 miles, 44.0 mpg, using 86.5 gal. and EV miles were almost a third of the total miles. I frequently manually check mileage between fillups and the above seems realistic. 1 coach81 reacted to this

mokee Report post Posted February 25, 2013 I meant to say I drove the FFH down the highway like I was draggin' a a twin axle boat trailer. It was touch and go at the ramp. 1 coach81 reacted to this

mokee Report post Posted March 2, 2013 Thank you, coach81, for your explanation of the lane keeping system. I turned it on during the trip and got the 3 rumbles straying out of my lane, but didn't realize the default mode was alert only. I look forward to trying out the aid modes next highway drive and appreciate your enthusiastic description of this option.
