Positive Comments ONLY about MPG, Hybrid tips & Powertrain

Hi Hybridbear, great idea to start this positive forum. I like this forum and the other one that Elle started! First and foremost, I really like my FFH itself. I do get great MPG as advertised so it is even better. In my opinion, fuel economy usually isn't the #1 reason a person who buys a $30,000 car. I mean, if you are starving and can't put gas in the car, how could you afford to spend that much money on a car? I figure people are upset that somehow Ford intentionally deceived the public which I don't agree with since I am getting almost exactly the advertised MPG! I want to feel good about my substantial investment. I want to make the most of the hybrid system since I made a conscious choice to buy a hybrid. It is fun to drive because it is challenging to get the most MPG. It is a great place to be challenged in though!

 

Very good point. We did however know that we could spend more upfront on the car because the fuel savings will pay off in the long run. I also like the challenge to try to get my MPG as high as possible. Glad to hear that you are happy. We are too

I took a road trip yesterday, about 60 miles or so on the interstate in my 2010. Got 40 MPG! That's 6 over highway EPA. The return trip though I fudged around and only got 38. Oh darn, only 2 over EPA. :-D

 

 

My lesson from this is if the people you are talking to cannot, or will not, get you satisfaction you must somehow advance to a level where the authority rests.

Getting past the shield wall that protects that authority is not always easy - which is what I was able to do this time.

Sometimes a change of dealership is required as there are always differences in dealership policy and ability.

 

Sometimes though, no matter how hard the dealership tries, when the CSR handling your case refuses to return your calls, and ignores the dealerships requests to contact you, there is only so much they can do.

Right on, Ace. I think many potential FFH buyers are those who have been looking at vehicles from much more expensive competitors (BMW, MB, Audi,etc). The fact they'll be using about half the amount of gas seals the deal.

I bought mine because my 2010 was so good I had to have another.

 

 

I test drove my father in laws Cmax today. 28* temps and I was able to get 43 MPG in it. Confirms my suspicion you dont HAVE to P&G these to get 40. Now if only the Ford CSR would call as she said she would. Keeping my fingers crossed that it helps.

I love how the transition between EV and ICE is seamless!

I agree the transition between EV and ICE is fantastic. I also like the noise cancellation system does a good job of keeping the engine drone in check.

Glad to hear you could get the high MPGs in the C-Max too. I'm trying to convince my parents to look at a C-Max Energi for their next car. With the current tax credit the Energi costs only a few hundred dollars more than the C-Max Hybrid. And their circumstances and driving habits are ideal for a PHEV like the Energi.

You are absolutely right. I couldn't afford to buy the BMW, Benz or Audi. Besides, FFH has everything that those German cars have at $10,000 to $20,000 less with 20 MPG increase. Not to mention the higher maintenance expense costs and higher insurance. If it makes one feel good because they drive something fancy from Germany, by all means buy them. It's just not my thing. Frankly I feel good that American car company built something this good that made me want to buy!

Getting lonely over here.

It gets tedious hearing the same complaints said 30 different ways without anything new to add.

Getting the last word in every Thread seems to be a contest to some, it's like hypermiling a discussion forum.

As I am a solution based person the reverberating complaining wears me down, the 5% win again.

 

So if this is for positive comments only, I am positively out of here for a while.

One hopes that all the the problems get solved and the unhappy get happy.

Well I got contacted by Trina from Ford via Facebook, so I'm keeping fingers crossed that we can come to some resolution. I do miss driving the car though. If the car had a larger gas tank, probably wouldn't be so bad, I'm just so used to having to fill up only once a week with my 2010. I like being able to go 600 miles between fills.

Another positive I would like to bring forward is all the comments I get from total strangers on how great the 2013 FFH looks. A cement truck driver stopped next to me yesterday and remarked what a great looking car it was. Never had that happen when I had my GTi and certainly would not happen if I had a Camry.

This is the thread for positive comments, right? Good day today, morning commute 45.3 over 60 miles (better than I thought, got stuck in a several-mile backup due to accident lane blockage, ICE kept coming on and I thought I would doom the morning trip MPG but it did OK).... however the REAL positive part was the afternoon where the temp was 57-58F (14C) so the HVAC was off and the car definitely wanted to go into EV more than normal, which I attribute to the mild weather and am curious how it will behave in another month or two when it's pretty mild both in mornings and afternoons and before it gets to summertime.

 

Anyway, lifetime had been sitting at 45.1 for about a week, had dipped down to 45.0 a few times during the colder commutes... but today on the way home the trip was 55.9 and lifetime went from 45.1 to 45.3. I caught a couple traffic jams in the normal backup spots a bit heavier than normal, and the only good thing about a traffic jam is that it appears to be good for MPG as long as you don't sit there for an hour with the HV going down to where the ICE needs to recharge it, etc.

 

So there's a positive tidbit for the thread, trip and lifetime shown below. Hopefully others will also see better MPG with the warmer temps.

Mine has had a good day too. 38 in the morning and 37 on the way home. My feet were warm both trips. Still not nearly as good as it should be, but better than it has been, and did I mention my feet were warm!

That happens to us too. The other day while I was getting gas an older gentlemen came up to me to ask about the car. He currently drives a BMW 5 series but is thinking about getting a Fusion Hybrid. He said that he really likes the look of the Fusion. I told him that we absolutely love the car and are doing over 40 MPG even in the cold winter.
