MPG Happy Talk

Recommended Posts

I can't tell you how happy I am to be routinely getting above 40mpg in this car with only 232 miles on the odometer. Today on a trip to get the windows tinted, I got 43.1mpg on a 16.6 mile trip with 8.8 EV miles and 1.0 Regen miles; I'd post a picture but it's too blurry. I did a lot of homework before ordering this car and I read through some of the MPG misery that others have endured. I was not at all encouraged by what I'd read. I took a calculated risk, hoping that I'd get a "good one" and hoping that the kinks would be worked out by the time my car was built. My wife loves the car (heck *I* have been driving it a lot the last couple of days more than she), I feel like we're getting good mileage (especially so early on), and in general the car is treating us well. We're still figuring out some of the goofy electronics (Sirius is a lot harder to find stuff on than on my Genesis), and Sync seems to be taking forever to "index" her iPod (9700 songs from our home server).

Thanks to all for all the information I got from this board; even the negatives. It was good background info.

Did my first trip to work and back today. With just 240 miles on the clock, I got 48.5 going to work and 43.8 coming back. Going in, traffic was light, as usual. The return trip was in the rain with stop and go traffic. I'm happy at this point. And in the areas were I could get to 65, the car did not go into EV mode over 62.

I think I also got a good one. The 6/28/2013 production date was a Friday and it looks like they did a great job while looking forward to the weekend.

When they built your car they were working two shifts 24/7. They are now working 3 shifts 24/7.

Well its good to know the shift that built it did a good job. And I'm sure someone that touched it had the weekend or part of the weekend off!

They just got done with siesta and were well-rested when yours was done, so you got a good one. Acdii's first one must have been built during hangover time or something... :petting:

I know many say that there is really no break-in period, but approaching 5000 miles I am gradually getting better and better mileage. I know that some of this is getting used to driving a hybrid, but I'm convinced that it is improving with mileage. I am averaging 41 to 43 now while around 3000 miles I was getting 39 to 40 on average. I've noticed that the highway mileage is improving also. Overall very happy with the car and looking forward to seeing what the new Ford mods will do to help. It would be great to get another 5 to 10%.

By the way, I never saw what happened to acdii's first car. I know it had a problem and got terrible mileage. Did Ford take it back?

The below is becoming my AVG MGP for work commute. I get anywhere between 58-64 MGP that is without AC. My rule is 85F and below no AC.

I'm stunned by this car's fuel efficiency capabilities, I'm still learning how to drive this thing :)

When I ran AC it usually sits between 44-48 MGP

Note: 85% is hwy commute, and I never go above 62 mph

I moved my Fusion 30 feet the other day and had a MPG of 999.9! Anyway, here's my stats from the trip home today. I had about the same results going in, but forgot to talk a picture. Pardon the picture. The trip was with the A/C on, max speed 60, with some stop and go. I'm also managing to nail the brake regen at 99 to 100% on most stops. I use the eco cruise most of the time as traffic permits.

I know it's meaningless but it's still fun to post unrealistic MPG numbers.

Return from lunch.

I had to meet the boss(es) for lunch yesterday across town, had someone else in the car so I was courteous and blasted the AC.... 22.2 MPG!

The lifetime inched up to 49.6 yesterday but retreated due to the above... but this morning's 54.1 got it back to 49.6 lifetime and this afternoon's commute (using the podunk rural road) was 57.7, so it was definitely a good day.

It is what it is for short trips no question my lunch outbound trip returned 30 MPG.

But when I see your lifetime avg. I'm jealous an some work to do mine ticked up another .1 and that always makes me smile.

Definitely inching up a lot slower than before... months ago I might see .2 or .3 in a single commute, however it appears that I'm getting really close to the peak as this one took 13 days! And today passed 19k miles too.

Took a bunch of Girl Scouts on a weekend camp in Imperial Beach (south of San Diego) over the weekend. Packing was tight, but I took the FFH instead of the VUE. MPG for the 103 mile trip was a few tenths above 47 - awesome!! Forgot to look on the return trip, but that was a great number for a 1 hour and 45 minute trip down to the beach camp.

Best MPG ever on a short trip to see my mom today! Lookie...

Amazing mileage for a short trip!

I think this is my best commute MPG thus far... did not have co-worker/carpooler so was able to take the podunk road for the last few miles where the MPG really benefits... tank is currently about 500 miles and shows 152 miles DTE, gonna go for it tomorrow and see where the tank ends up.

OK, what I need is a good head scratching happy face. This afternoon I made a 53 mile drive through neighborhood streets w/ 20mph limits and many stop signs, spent three periods at idle for up to 5 minutes with car and A/C running and 15 miles at .60mph and got 42mpg. Tank calculated after 10.882gal fuelup was 36mpg. I just never know what's going to show up next time.

Stopped at the dealer and inquired of SW patch for economy, got blank stare.

I'd LOVE to have a 47 MPG tank!! Best we've had is 40. Today's fill-up calculated at 38.0 MPG.

It has been a rather busy week for me. I was out in Countryside yesterday(where I snapped that pic of the Fusion Ti) all day doing a network and wireless survey. Day before working from home with a flaky internet connection that was still giving issues last night. I gave up when the pages took 5 minutes to load.

Just a general update. I'm afraid I don't have any pictures so just take my word for it. My morning commute has raised to 57-59 MPG over 36.8 miles of mostly (about 32 Miles) highway driving (65 MPH). The return trip is usually 40-41 MPG. This means I'm averaging AT LEAST 48.5 MPG daily, doing mostly 65 MPH driving.

Aaronj1159. I'm curious, do you set your cruise at 65 and the cars in front of you sometimes are under 65 thus dropping your speed and allowing the car to go into more EV or are you pretty much at a constant 65?

This is also assuming you have adaptive cruise.

I do not have adaptive cruise, but otherwise yes I set my cruise at 65 and it's constant. I might have to drop down below the EV threshold once or twice per trip if I get pinned behind a truck going uphill, but it's not for long and it's not consistent at all.

This is nothing impressive with all the outrages numbers I'm seeing on here, but what the heck, I'll post it anyway...
